elevated csPjW Sing, Karl – passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on January 8 2025, of cancer and congestive heart failure. He was 92 years old. Survived by Veronika, his wife of 64 years, sons Roland (Teresa), Peter (Darlene), daughter Christine (Dave), grandchildren Stefan (Jodie), Francesca (Jamie), Danielle, Brianne (Todd), Heather (Gustavo), Michael (Faith) and James. Also survived by his twin brother Josef (Elfrieda) in Dillingen/Donau, Germany, along with many nieces and nephews there.
elevated csPjW Karl was born and raised in Dillingen, apprenticed as a hair dresser in Switzerland, and emigrated to Canada in 1958. He established his own hair salon in Richmond Hill. Karl’s Beauty Salon was in operation from 1965 to 1973 and had many loyal customers. He owned Michael’s Cards and Gifts from 1973 to 1975, and then became a transit operator, first with Markham Transit and then with the TTC. Karl took up oil painting as a hobby and many of his creations hang in our family homes.
elevated csPjW He and Veronika were excellent gardeners in their spare time, winning second place in the Richmond Hill “Rose Award” garden competition in 1976. He retired after 20 years of service with the TTC. In retirement he was an avid traveler, wintering in Florida and taking yearly trips back home to Germany and other places in Europe. He also served as a director and president of his condo board from 2005 to 2015.
elevated csPjW Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the palliative care unit of Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill for their excellent care in his final days.
elevated csPjW In lieu of flowers, donations in Karl’s memory to the Mackenzie Health Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Karl was a great man, excellent father and husband. He will be missed.

It is so sad to hear of the passing of our good friend and neighbour while living on 16thAve. Karl was a good friend to my parents who are waiting to welcome him to heaven. Such sad days. Long time neighbour of my parents, my brother and myself. He was our hairdresser, neighbour and friend. I remember lots of pool parties and his wonderful garden.
