elevated zkgFj Obituary

elevated zkgFj Katherine Anne McKenna née Ryan died peacefully at home surrounded by her family as the last verse of the Divine Mercy Chaplet was prayed on May 14th at the age of 76. She was filled with a tremendous peace her last few days, and the tenderness between she and Joe, was reminiscent of their first love, and a gift for all to see.

elevated zkgFj In the past few years of her decline, Joe and Kath demonstrated the commitment to their wedding vows for better or worse, in sickness and in health.  Thankfully, true to her feisty self, she was still able to whisper-bark a few words of direction before her death wanting to make sure that Pat and Claudia had bought the right soil to fill the planters, and that the men were coming to turn the sprinkler system on for the season because “Joe didn’t know anything about that”

elevated zkgFj Kathy is survived by her Husband Joseph, children Patrick (Claudia), Shauna (Chuck Vick), John (Marina), Katie (Andrew Grieve) and the wonderful grandchildren for whom she had a deep love. Jake and Riley McKenna, Tori Vick, Hannah, Gerard, Maeve and Fiona McKenna, and Grace and Ella Grieve.

elevated zkgFj Kathy was born on September 14th, 1941 in Medicine Hat Alberta. She graduated as a Nurse from St. Michaels Hospital Nursing program.  There, plagued by ear infections, real at first, but feigned infections later, as she was assigned to be treated by a handsome young Irish intern, Joseph, who would become her husband and loving partner for 54 years.

elevated zkgFj All who knew Kath knew of her obsession with major league sports, NFL, NHL, MLB, memorizing statistics, plays, and participating in fantasy leagues, always chirping her grandsons over the Leafs. Her children, their friends and anyone who walked through her door, were welcomed as one of the family by her generous loving heart. She will be remembered for her laughter, her love and compassion, and that she always had room for one more at the table.

elevated zkgFj Many many thanks to Dr. Arvanitis, and her Care workers from VHA, especially Hazel, Emmeline, and Gloria., all of whom treated her with such respect, dignity and love.  The past few years, her daughter in law Claudia was an extension of her left arm, taking all Kaths direction on how she wanted everything done, bills, planning, organizing, appointments, and we are so very grateful.

elevated zkgFj The family will receive friends at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home 211 Langstaff Road East (west of Bayview Ave.) on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place within the funeral home in the Chapel of St. Joseph on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. A private family interment to follow at a later date.
