elevated KilRZ PEZZACK, Katherine Anne (nee: Kirby)
elevated KilRZ It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our mother Katherine (Kay) Pezzack has died and gone home to God. Kay was born in Chatham,Ontario in 1931 and died on Sunday February 28, 2021, in her 90th year.
elevated KilRZ Mom is survived by her five children: Karen (Edward (d)), Paul (Karen Ann), Mary-Susan, Lisa and Charles (Jennifer); eight grandchildren: Michelle (Greg), Chris (Joy), Cara (Shannon), Cory, Thomas, Kayley, Grant (Taylor) and Kevin; and five great-grandchildren: Kaylan, Jeremija, Kasi, Benjamin and Mackenzie. She is also survived by one Sister-In-Law, Sandra Kirby, and numerous nieces and nephews.
elevated KilRZ Kay was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Thomas, her parents Kevin and Madeline Kirby and Step-Mother Hilda Kirby. She outlived all of her four siblings, Marie, Gerald, Lorraine and Hugh.
elevated KilRZ Mom was an incredible woman with a deep faith in the power of prayer, and she was a warm and loving mother, wife, sister and friend. She started out as a lab technician after attending one year of university, until she married and became a ‘Domestic Engineer’. At age 52, she returned to York University to complete her degree. Mom was also an artist who loved to paint. Much of her favourite time was spent at Cedar Point and Thunder Beach on Georgian Bay.
elevated KilRZ Mom had many life-long friends including Diane Malloy (Calgary), and the Bridge Club – the Millars, Hirons’, Kents, and Raymonds. She grew up and lived much of her life in Blessed Sacrament Parish in Toronto before moving to St. Gabriel’s about 30 years ago. Mom lived on her own after Dad died, and she took great pride in the fact that she was more than capable of looking after herself, even despite various illnesses in recent years.
elevated KilRZ We extend our deepest thanks to the many nurses and doctors at North York General Hospital who cared for Mom in her final stay, most especially Dr. D. Grossman, without whose incredible palliative care, Mom would not have been able to achieve and maintain such a state of comfort and peace, right to the end. Thank you Doctor G!
elevated KilRZ A private funeral and interment was held at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home and Cemetery on March 4, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the charity of your choice that cares for those who are homeless or hungry.

Our Auntie Kay had a loving heart for all of her extended family. We treasure the many wonderful times we had together: the Christmas Eve’s we visited, the times we shared at Thunder Beach talking and laughing; and regular telephone calls and visits to the houses/condo catching up on what was happening with everyone in the family. We solved the problems of the world, enjoyed a cup of tea/coffee and always there were cookies to eat. She brightened our lives with her joy, she provided a wonderful example of faith in action, she shared her love with our ever expanding family, and she was always there for us. We loved her and will miss her dearly. We are comforted by thinking of her up in heaven, with God, having a good time with all of her family and friends especially Uncle Tom, her sisters Marie and Lorraine, and her parents Madeline & Kevin Kirby. Our sympathies to all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom she loved so much.

As long time neighbours on Cheritan Ave, we have fond memories of a time gone by. Tag and hide and go seek on summer nights and grooving to tunes in the family room and back deck. Tom and Kay always around.
An era now complete.

Our Aunt Kay , with her bright smile, kind words and listening ear was a wonderful woman, mother, grandmother and friend. Family was important proven by the many, many, family events hosted over many , many years.

Aunt Sandra sends her love and prayers to my five loving nieces and nephews Karen, Mary-Sue, Lisa, Paul & Charles and your families. When help was needed Auntie Kay was always there to take charge. Always cooking up a storm for family gatherings. I have such fond memories of Christmas and Boxing Day dinners. Also, fun summer days spent at the farm, swimming and fishing in the pond. Always followed by a big family meal, put together by your Mom. So many good memories, such a special sister-in-law. Mother Teresa penned these words…”we can do no great things-only small with great love.”Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. With much love,

So very sorry for your loss. Our visits weren’t often but your Mom always had the best coffee and inspirational words of wisdom. I will always remember her mint Nanaimo bars at Christmas. Both your parents were always there to support family milestones and keep abreast of life’s ups and downs. A very special Aunt with a special place in my heart. With heartfelt sympathy.
Very sad to say goodbye to Auntie Kay. We will miss you. Sending my love and prayers to the whole family.
Please know that I am praying for all of you in your grief. It was an honour to be counted as one of Kay’s friends and to start and end my holidays with Karen at “Kay’s Hotel”.

Dear Pezzack family,
It was wonderful to see you all gathered in such a beautiful setting to bid farewell to your beloved Mother.
I have so many memories of growing up on Cheritan Ave. with the Pezzack’s and the Midghall’s down the street and the Bonds a few blocks away and with each new addition to the family, the bonds grew deeper. I remember that we were introduced to the extensive Kirby clan by attending wakes at funeral homes and singing at funeral masses. Over the years I could pick out a Kirby on the street just by how they looked! Your Mom always had that feisty smile and eager friendly greeting when we met.
For our Mom too, the values of faith and family were her touchstones. Know that she isn’t very far away from you. She will be very busy for the next little while celebrating in the “Kirby mansion” that the Lord has prepared for those who love Him. But the lessons of her faith and her love will continue to live in your minds and hearts until you meet again.

Auntie Kay was a large part of my life growing up on Cheritan Ave. I remember the three sisters would meet almost every day for coffee at one of their homes. They always seemed to have lots to talk about! I’m sure she is happy to be in Heaven with her loved ones who passed before her. Our heartfelt condolences to Karen, Mary-Sue, Lisa, Paul and Charles and the rest of your families. Your Mom was a good soul and will be missed.
