elevated BYTX7 Kathleen “Kay” Holker, née Brady, 80, died peacefully on June 16, surrounded by family.
elevated BYTX7 A woman of many sides, Kay was tender and tough, devout and irreverent, endlessly giving yet entirely her own. She turned her own hardships into compassion for others, serving through St. Luke’s Parish, the Alzheimer’s Day Centre, and Hospice Thornhill. She was just as well known for her baking, her knitting, those treasured Aran sweaters, and a wit that taught everyone not to mess with Mom in the morning.
elevated BYTX7 Kathleen will be remembered as a loving mother, a kind helper, a comfort, and a love that will keep finding us. Her greatest contribution was herself, freely given, and that gift lives on in everyone she touched.
elevated BYTX7 Before making her life in Canada, Kathleen was raised in Lurgan, Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland. She lived there with her parents, John and Catherine Brady, and her siblings, Dermot, Eilish, John, and Sheila, who all passed before her. She immigrated in 1967, married Patrick Noel Austin, and had her first son Noel Terence Austin in 1968, before Patrick’s untimely passing in 1970.
elevated BYTX7 In 1977, she married James Holker and had three more sons, Michael, Brendan, and Graham. She poured immense love and energy into her four sons and created a loving home. Sadly, James passed away in 2024.
elevated BYTX7 Kathleen is survived by her four children: Noel (Josée) Austin and their children Hayley and Kevin, Michael (Marlene), Brendan, and Graham (Mahsa).
elevated BYTX7 Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful, loving care she received at Norfinch Care Community and from the PSWs from C-Care who provided dedicated, one-on-one care.

It was a true privilege to care for Kathleen.
I will always remember her kindness, her strength, her sense of humour, and the love she had for her family. Even on difficult days, her warmth and spirit shone through. She touched the lives of so many people, including mine, and I feel grateful to have known her.

. In the year I had the privilege of working with her, she brought kindness, warmth, and laughter to every day. She was a genuinely caring, loving, and funny person who made those around her feel welcome and valued. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories of her smile, humor, and friendship will remain with us always.
