elevated E5y3I Irish – Kathlyn Margaret Hannan in her 95th year, peacefully on Monday August 16 2021. Kathlyn, a caring and thoughtful daughter to late parents Mildred Galvin and Edward Hannan. Kay was a loving sister to the late Jack, Ted and Mary, whom she always spoke kindly and fondly of. Kathlyn, beloved wife of the late Dr. Paul Joseph Irish (May 10, 1985). Kay had many happy memories of her married life with Joe and missed him every day. Mom was always loving and supportive to her children Mark, Paul, Eileen, Kathleen, Maureen, David, Margaret and Peter. She was deeply saddened by the loss of four of her children, Mark, Peter, a stillborn son and Vincent, twin brother of David.
elevated E5y3I Kay was a wonderful mother-in-law and friend to Cathleen Irish, Gregory Rogers, Mark McKay and Gloria Taylor. Her grandchildren brought her much joy and the happy memories of Nanny will remain with Erin, Meghan, Carolyn, Luke, Caitlin, Victoria, Courtney, Eileen, David, Patric, Mark, Bridget, Maureen, Paul, Robert, Sean, Daniel, Michael, Patrick, Matthew, Kelly, Jessica, Sarah and their families. Great Nanny to James, Liam, Caiden, Luke, Christian, Michaela, Adam, Desmond, Mason, Molly, Emilia, Edward, Brody, Paige, Cara, Ava, Lucy, Valerie, Ronald and Penelope. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved her very much and will remember her always.
elevated E5y3I She always had a special place in her heart for nieces Mary Ruth and the late Carol, her godchildren. Auntie Kay was the matriarch of a large extended family and her relatives will miss her deeply. Kathlyn was a “generous soul” throughout her life, particularly during her twenty years at St. Michael’s Cathedral. She fed the homeless, was kind to people living on the street and always had change for a young person who needed it. Mom taught us “the works of mercy” by her simple examples we saw, heard and witnessed throughout her life.

Aunt Kay was the most beautiful woman I have ever known — inside and out. I was proud to call her my Godmother. I loved her deeply.
I am totally forlorn that I can not be with all of the family to laugh and cry together.
In Toronto just above Bloor Street
And ever so close to Bathurst
There was such a small house
So nicely kept inside and out
A house full of people

And my dear friend Peter
There were so many of them they must have been hanging out the bloody windows
What a crew
What a marriage that must have been for Kathlyn and the good doctor
To bring up all those Rascals
What a life full of activity through the years that must have been for them all

If it is not a pretty bright coloured flower
Then I am not surprised you do not think today of Kathlyn
Look about that flower blooms yet not so far away…you will find it
For always she smiled when I saw her
She was my friend’s mother such a fine woman too
She knew how to laugh and she knew how to joke
But above all she knew how to rear a family
Kathlyn Irish through and through Kathlyn
If today some wind blows
I listen for things I learned some years gone by
From the mother of my friend
These will be simple things
Lessons of life kindnesses forgiveness the need to be happy
Friendship the value of family
Things of the such will I listen for in the words of the winds that pass this day
What a fine fine woman this day has passed
How good she was to us all….
May God take gently this woman to his home
For always she kept God in her home
In her heart in her mind in her soul
And pray this great man called God
Remember her as always she did He
And re-unite her with her lost and passed kin

And those children’s children
That she and her good husband brought sweetly to our life

It’s always heartbreaking to lose a much-loved parent who has been in your life so long. I send my sincere condolences to the Irish family, particularly my old friend Eileen. Mrs Irish (as I’ve thought of her since St Gabe’s days) was always kind and welcoming to her kids’ friends. I remember their house on Blue Ridge Rd as full of joy and fun.
May your many happy memories help you all through this difficult time.
Kay was one of my favourite people- so warm and kind. I always felt welcome in the Irish home growing up and I have many wonderful memories. Kay and Joe were such good parents and fantastic people. Kay will certainly be missed!
My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. Kay was the sweetest, most thoughtful lady and we are all so fortunate to have known such an amazing person. She truly is an inspiration to all of us.

Kay became my friend when Margie came to Grade 1 at St.Gabriel’s School and i was fortunate to have this precious little girl in my class.We remained friends for many years and some years ago I moved into the ranks of being “Kay’s best friend”because all of her other “best friends” had died. I am most grateful for the many hours which I was able to sit by her side, bring the Eucharist to her, pray with her ,talk about everyone that we both knew, show her pictures, and often talk to her about her future meeting with God , face to face. Kay had no fear of dying.She had lived a grace filled life and had without complaint ,offered her many sadnesses to God but also her gratitude for her many blessings. When Margie called to tell me that my best friend had just died, she knew that I would be happy that now Kay was on her adventure into heaven where Joe and the boys would be waiting for their beautiful mother and wife.
So very sorry to hear this sad news.

Although my time with “Nanny Irish” was short, it was memorable!
She was a remarkable and funny lady! Quick witted and lovely to be around!
I am very grateful to have known her however briefly.
And, oh my heart, what a legacy she leaves behind!
