I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Hwang. He was a true gentle man who provided to many people who knew him valuable guidance and understanding. The fine examples that he set for us of intellectual curiosity, compassion for others, humility and integrity in all areas of life make up his outstanding legacy.
I feel honoured to have known Mr. Hwang and I will miss our conversations.
Dr. K H Hwang, known affectionately to his many friends as “KH”, was a scholar of the truest color. He mastered the Chinese Classics at a young age and could recite them even in his nineties. Not only that, he could translate each passage instantly into English, French and German, yes, even in his nineties. He was an expert in international law, having obtained his doctorate at Cambridge University under the tutelage of Professor Lauterpacht Snr. In later life, he became an outstanding personage in public service and business. KH was also a connoisseur of classical music. He could quickly recognize any passage, from Mozart to Wagner, from Gershwin to Copland. No iPhone App could come close! He has accomplished much in life. To top it all, he was a person generous to his friends and loving to his family. He has lived his life enviably well. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered as a bright star to guide us on our journey ahead in life!
Our deepest condolences go out to the Children of Mr. Huang–his wonderful legacy–Sophie and her Sister — and his dear Friend Vladimir. May he rest in peace for eternity and may only wonderful memories fill the lives of his living loved ones in time. Love, the Grande Kershaw Family
Dr. K. H. Hwang, my dear uncle, RIP
Thoughts and memories of my uncle flooded my mind as i was told of his passing. Dr. Hwang was the youngest of five siblings in his family with my dad being the eldest son. I am sorry that I do not know him really well as he was away travelling, etc having his education in the U.K. during my younger and teen years. I remember how fond of “his brother” when my dad was talking about my uncle. Dr. Hwang my uncle was the first in our clan to get a PhD. I was told that when he went home after the degree, the whole village came out to welcome him and everybody was so proud of him. When my own dad passed away, my uncle and his family took care of me and my two brothers and we went to his house for dinner every evening for a few years until i went for my own studies in the U.S. When I was born, it was my uncle Dr. Hwang who gave me my chinese name “See Bock”. After Hong Kong my uncle immigrated to Toronto Canada. For the last few years whenever i go to Toronto I visited him, had meals with him and sit talking etc. I love his warmth, his wit and humour… his love of classical music and life in general. Dr. Hwang my uncle will be greatly missed. RIP

Uncle Hwang has much respect from us as he was gentle, knowledgeable, learned, talented, humorous, humble, nice and caring. He lived a full and admirable life. He will be remembered, always. May he rest in peace.
To Sophie. I am very sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. Reading some of the messages and hearing from Vlad I see what a wonderful and truly interesting life that he had. I know you’re proud of him and I think he inspired many others. I’ll see you soon. Don Pocock
He was our King–wise,, kind, eternal. He now sits peacefully snd joyfully next to his late wife in the afterlife. Rest in peace for eternity and keep us in your protective glance. Until we meet again. …family and friends reunited in the fullness of time.
