Lawrence was the best brother sisters could ever have. He was always loving, supportive and loyal. He was a good companion and an interesting raconteur. We will never stop missing him.

We are thinking of you all. It is difficult to imagine this earthly world without Lawrence’s footsteps, presence, smile and good nature. He will remain in my memory forever and I will never forget all the times he came by to fix my air conditioner or furnace. Always with a jolly smile and a funny story about Charles or The Colonel. He would breeze by and deal with the issue so we had a nice cool home in the summer heat or a warm one if it was winter. Saturday or Sunday we were never left to the elements. He would chat with Meabh, Aine or Eoghan and took time to pet the dogs. Just a great man!

I have so many fond memories growing up, getting to stay with Lawrence and the family on Dove Lane when we visited from England. I will cherish all the family dinners we were able to spend together for celebrations – Lawrence always loved those big spaghetti dinners!! He touched so many lives whether it be through teaching or talents in his work. Lawrence, we will miss you so much.
Our sincere condolences on the passing of Lawrence. I will always cherish Lawrence’s down to earth view of the world and his razor sharp wit. The world lost a gentle soul.
Italo, I had the honor to see Lawrence from time to time up at the board and recently last year he had come to my house to fix the air conditioner. We started to bring up good old times at St. Peters School.
It was a pleasure to have Lawrence as a Teacher and Friend in my Life. He may be gone but will never ever be forgotten. May He Rest In Eternal Peace.
I was first introduced to the wonders of Mr. Cotton as my industrial arts teacher at St. Peter’s elementary school. Who knew that our paths would cross professionally years later as colleagues working within the same school board. There has always been a special place in my heart for Mr. Cotton – aka my friend Lawrence, and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to know him as a teacher, a colleague & friend. Gone too soon but he will never be forgotten! RIP.

Mr. Cotton as I knew him was my shop teacher and friend. He played a key roll in shaping the man that I am today. He managed to see the potential in myself and others that no other would. I was a write off in the eyes of most but not to him. He nurtured the interest that I had in his class by spending extra time with me after school allowing me to help out with projects he had on the go and I would help clean and prep machines for the next day. All the while teaching me new skills and tricks along with his witty and thoughtful sayings. He talked differently than the others but most importantly he listened. I think he saw life differently than most did. Truly a class act. His work ethic and general view of the world inspired me to pursue a life that I am proud to have now. A man who rooted for the underdog. I can honestly tell you that my life would look a lot different had it not be for his wise words and thoughtful lessons. I owe this man for showing me the way and not giving up on me. Ive since started my own welding Buisness and love what I do. My deepest condolences to your family. Please know that this man set myself and surely many others on the right path and I couldn’t be more great full. Rest In Peace Mr. Cotton, and thank you for everything.

Years ago, I had the pleasure of working with Lawrence at St. Elizabeth CHS. His sense of humour, quiet presence, and collaborative approach with students & staff, always stood out. Although he will be missed by many, his impact will remain. Condolences to his family and friends.
Lawrence was a great, joyous man and a strong role model for his children and their friends who grew up knowing him. I consider myself lucky to be one of them. His enthusiastic and welcoming approach to life was definitely evident to me and won’t ever be forgotten. Thanks for being a most excellent friend to us all!
Lawrence was such a lovely man who always showed how much he cared about others. He would often reach out to keep in touch and see how things were going with everyone in our families. He had a great sense of humour, and we loved listening to his stories. John and I will miss him greatly.

Lawrence was an amazing man who lead by example. I knew him as a friend of the family, a teacher, and a role model. His humor and intelligence was always on full display and he acted with integrity and was always willing to help. I will miss Lawrence, and I will never forget the things he thought me.

The Fun Uncle! A legend, inspiration and one of the quickest wits in the west. Whether it was the cloudiest of UK days or the coldest of Toronto visits, his presence always meant a pint, a wonderful chat and a wholehearted laugh.

I consider myself fortunate to have had the chance to meet Lawrence, and enjoy his company over family meals in Ottawa, at the family cottage, or as he generously opened up his home to me to stay at in Toronto while passing through. He was always smiling, laughing and genuinely just wanted to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves.
Welcoming Claire into our family was the easiest thing to do, and finding out she came from such an amazing family was a bonus!

Lawrence was an outstanding educator and advocate for students pursuing all kinds of different pathways in life. He went far above the call of duty in reaching students through the resources he developed, through his teaching, and through his school visits. Our YCDSB students will lead successful lives thanks to Lawrence’s genuine care and committment. He will be greatly missed from all who knew him.
We will miss Lawrence like crazy. We were always so happy when Lawrence and Carol would come to the cottage. Our favourite times would be having beers on the dock, where Lawrence would always be so interested every detail of our lives. There were many Contiki bar cocktails and sunset cruises that will never be forgotten. We feel honoured that we were able to share these special times with such a wonderful caring man. We love you Lawrence.

Not only was he a dedicated and outstanding educator, Lawrence’s was an admirer of ingenuity and delight. Gizmos of all kinds were a source of fascination however, couple that with a good turn of phrase, and you would find his happy place. His love of a good bit of gossip was legend and he could tell a damn fine story. I’ll miss our “parish council” meetings at the bar around the corner from work on Fridays. We are all lucky to have known him.

Myself and my family were very lucky that the Cottons moved to our little dead end street some thirty years ago. Lawrence came to be like a brother to me, and Claire and Charles became like siblings to our son Rémy.
Lawrence is, and will continue to be, sorely missed as an important and joyful part of our lives
Carol and family, while I did not know Lawrence long, I am thankful to have had the opportunity to get to know him during the conference at Canmore. He had an amazing ability to make a person feel so welcomed and included with his ready smile, genuine laugh and excellent stories. I will always remember him wearing a most excellent festive blazer to our Christmas dinner last year. His dedication to family was evident to anyone who had the pleasure to know Lawrence even a little. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Many birthdays and holidays I remember over the years at Painswick, Cottons and Enrights together. Great memories of listening to, talking to and laughing with the coolest, funniest Uncle Lawrence. Even though he wasn’t my uncle, he was my cousins, and he always made me feel just as special. He had a smile that was so wonderful to see.

Lawrence was an exceptional person. He was fun, kind hearted, a good family man and always ready to help anyone who needed a hand. My fondest memories are one’s he would remember, like the speech at Charles’ wedding, and ones he may not, like eating pizza and drinking beer with him in my basement and laughing as we all listened to him tell stories after a day of him patiently showing me how to install a gas line. I didn’t just learn that from him but also what kind of person I want to be. I will miss him dearly.
We are so sad for your devastating loss Carol, Charles, Claire and family. Lawrence was a big part of our family – always there for each of us whenever we needed advice, support or friendship. He was true blue – reliable, dedicated, intelligent, funny and loyal. We were truly blessed to have known him and spent time with him and will always have great memories forever in our hearts. An educator who always put students first. A friend who never ceased to answer the call when needed. A father and husband whose love for his family he expressed in so many ways. A fine, fine man who will be missed.
Lawrence was a consummate gentleman, a wise man, and a wonderful friend. His passion for quality education elevated the role and scope of Technological Education at St. Elizabeth CHS, the Board, and the entire province. He will be sorely missed by my entire family, as Lawrence became a familiar face around our home and often solved a technical problem or fulfilled a repair need. We will miss him dearly.

Lawrence was a man’s man. He was a wonderful role model as a husband, father, son, teacher, youth leader and friend. His yes was a yes, he kept his promises and would help others at the drop of a hat. His passion for his hobbies, his trade skills and ability to connect and nurture youth was legendary. One always appreciated his stories and his sharing of life experiences. Lawrence was not one to follow the crowd or the general flow of society; rather, he blazed his own trail that many choose to follow with him. Lawrence always pointed back to his family with a great sense of love, awe and respect. In his last days, he told me how much joy it brought to him to hold his baby granddaughter in his arms, to see the birth of the next generation and to be surrounded by his loved ones. “Well done good and faithful servant, now go to the place prepared for you in heaven even before the start of time”. Lawrence was loved by many as he loved those that he helped to look after, guide and serve in so many different ways. We will never forget you, Lawrence. Thank you for being you.

I was lucky enough to know Lawrence for close to 25 years, and I will always remember his sense of humour, kindness, intelligence and quick wit. I will forever cherish the times I walked into the house on Dove Lane and was welcomed by Lawrence’s welcoming smile, a million questions, and his dry humour. Just the other day we were reminded of when our oldest was very young and someone had given her a loonie which she was quite proud of…old Uncle Lorenzo took her aside and said : “Dear…from here on in, if someone else tries that, tell them you only accept paper money” and handed her a $ 5 bill..

Carol, Charles and Claire; he was a gem of a man so kind and giving who loved his family more than anything else and I feel so blessed that I was able to share him with you all these years.
There was no one else who could get so much joy out of a fine cooked Roast beef with all the trimmings than Lawrence.

It is difficult for me to fathom the passing of Lawrence. I am lucky to have called him friend for nearly thirty years and I will miss him greatly. His whit, humour and story telling were second to none. He had an engaging personality as well as the ability to relate to people from all walks of life. He was a great educator because of his ability to communicate with his students and encourage them to succeed.
Lawrence was really in his element at the annual ‘Boys Night Out’ dinner enjoying a steak and some single malt scotch while embellishing stories from the past.
Lawrence always spoke so proudly about his family and loved them dearly.

To the Cotton Family.
I was blessed to be a fellow department head at St. Elizabeth for many years. Lawrence worked with the most challenging students and was able to nurture all to their potential. So many students were blessed and encouraged by his presence in their lives.
The Cottons, through meeting Charles at York University in 2005, became my family away from home when I, a sophomoric 20-year old boy, moved to Toronto from the rural sticks of New Hampshire.
Lawrence had a way of making you feel like you had known him for 20 years the first time you met him. His friendship and interest in you and your life and thoughts seemed so automatic and effortless while never implying superiority.
I don’t remember if it was our first meeting or close to it, but I just remember him being interested in truly getting to know me. Then challenging me and himself to examining politics and philosophy. Then him opening wondering if there was a way for me to smuggle some trivial thing from the US that Canada had banned. It might seem like some cute story, but how many people has anyone met where your first conversation is riddled with depth, friendship and hilarious trivial matters all in the first 20 minutes? As the time expanded between seeing Lawrence, it never felt that anything more than days had passed. That, to me, is the definition of true friendship.
My life, overall, has been disproportionately shaped by Lawrence. When a job teaching writing at a trade school opened up, I pushed hard to get it and Lawrence was on my mind the whole time. While I was still teaching, my summers were filled with paint and lumber and screws and tools. It was never far from my mind how my experience in the trades shaped my days in the classroom in ways few but Lawrence would ever understand. Exposure to both worlds kept me honest in each.
And the thing that always makes me laugh. Sometimes Charles would call his dad on speakerphone when I happened to be visiting. I felt like we always caught him eating. And Charles and Lawrence would have these things to talk about, serious or planning or nothing in particular, but he would punctuate with these vibrant and passionate descriptions of how delicious this was or that was and how we had to try this or that, Charles and I in stitches the entire time.
Lawrence loved. He just loved. Always wanting to learn more to love more and love more to learn more. He will be missed.

Many words come to mind when I think of Lawrence.
Wise; in any given conversation with Lawrence, he always imparts some form of wisdom. To adventure, to be curious, to live life to its fullest, to many fun facts, and to add new words to my vocabulary. My favorite of which was “pizzle” which my dog now enjoys on regular basis.
Kind; I’m not sure this word does Lawrence justice, but he has always been so kind to our friend group. From getting our friends jobs, to allowing us to enjoy the pool and basement, Dove Lane has always been a fun and safe place to be.
Hardworking; I think this one goes without saying, just watching Lawrence open the pool this year we wouldn’t have been able to get the tarp up without his extra push. His hardworking spirit lives on through the great accomplishments of Claire and Charles and will surely live on in all the great things little Frankie will accomplish in her life.
Great Father; Over the years both Charles and Claire have become some of my closest and most dependable friends. They are smart, insightful, hardworking, and whole lot of fun to be around. It’s clear that through both nature and nurture they have grown up to be the amazing people that they are.
I could think of a million more words but these are just a few that come to mind.
Lawrence will be dearly missed, and though gone, he will never be forgotten; the legend of Lawrence will live on forever.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Lawrence at the C.E.C. for many years. He was passionate about his work with students..wanting them to succeed in life.

Mr. Cotton was the best teacher I never had. He came into my life as a colleague of my mom and dad at St. Elizabeth CHS, and stayed in my life as the result of his close friendship with my dad. Even as an adult, he was always Mr. Cotton to me. His voice and the way he spoke were so very distinctive. They are etched in my memory, as are his joy and his kindness. I’ll never forget him.
I remember the time he introduced my family to Indian food by preparing a homemade feast of butter chicken and all the fixings for us long before it was popular. I was too young to appreciate it at the time but Indian food is now one of my favourite cuisines. Coincidence?
That’s definitely my most vivid memory of Mr. Cotton but not the only one. Other happy memories include time spent in the summer with the Cotton family; launching rockets at Beavers with Mr. Cotton, Charles, my dad, and brother; and frequently running into Mr. Cotton in the halls of St. E. He always had a warm hello and a witty quip, a joking question or a funny story for me.
Just knowing there were still people like him in this world made it a better place. What a truly lovely man we have all lost. Mr. Cotton, I will miss you.
Carol, Charles, and Claire, please accept my sincere condolences. Your husband and father was one-of-a-kind. We are better people for having known him and loved him, even if it wasn’t for nearly long enough.

When Lawrence and I pushed two furnaces each weighing 400 pounds out of the basement of a Toronto landmark restaurant or the day I spun-out his Chevy II station wagon with Lawrence steering his engineless Austin Healey lashed to the Chevy’s bumper on Hwy 401 at Warden Avenue, it never occurred to me that I’d lose my dear friend one day. How we survived that day was a miracle.
Lawrence mentored me in the early days of my career in the HVAC industry and, many years later in my role as a field service representative, I tried to return the favour to him whenever he called me about a cranky gas furnace or disobedient air conditioner trying to ruin his day. A truly great friend, teacher and business partner; there are few like him. My sincerest condolences to Carol and to his fine family

Carol and Lawrence were our neighbours from a distance and more recently, next door. One could not ask for better folks to live beside. Lawrence was constantly working away on a project, such as the recently constructed deck, or offering assistance both physical and philosophical, to others on our lovely street.
As ideal neighbours, we would often not be aware of their backyard presence if it were not for the occasional “phhssst” of a Guinness can being lovingly opened by Lawrence as he surveyed his beautiful yard.

“Lorenzo”. That was always the name I knew Lawrence by. Never “Lawrence”. He was an integral part of the very “colourful” family I joined by marrying his cousin, Martina. Lawrence was the kind of person who you hoped you would bump into, if you went into the local pub for a drink and didn’t know anyone. Gracious and kind and always full of stories about the “Family”. He and I shared a common interest in British Sports cars and even shared ownership of a similar brand, an MGB. He was full of good humour and he was the light that illuminated the “Cotton” family tree and brought together the disparate parts of that family tree in a very real and meaningful way. I last saw “Lorenzo” on the Ogden Point Breakwater in Victoria, a few years ago, and he was very much the same, but like all of us, just older.

“Oh no” I thought when I first heard he was ill “not Lawrence”. The world needs more Lawrences’.
When I was a young barmaid and running around the Victoria and Albert pub ferrying trays filled with pints of Double Diamond and Watney’s Red to ferociously thirsty Torontonians, (is there a water shortage in TO?), Lawrence and Carol would drop by on occasion for a drink and a chat. They were just dating back then, but you could see he’d have been a fool to let her go. They were just good together.
Years later, when we were living in B.C. I began to know him better through his relationship to my sister Madelaine. If you asked me right now who my godfather is, I’d have to say “I don’t know’. To me, it was a title bestowed upon a close friend or relation as an honour, with no strings attached. Not so in the case of Lawrence. No one could have taken his role of godfather more seriously. For more years than I can count, he made his support for Madelaine known to her. Every birthday and every Christmas, a few lines in a card accompanied by some much appreciated cash, (just as his father Ed had done for us as children), let Maddy know that she had backup. Madelaine went through some very difficult times in those years and it would be difficult to overstate the effect having someone “from away”, tie himself to her so securely. She walked taller and held her head higher as a result. You could actually see it. I personally loved and will always love, Lawrence for this. For a brief moment, he made me cast a second glance at faith, because it seemed to have imbued him with all the traits you want for yourself, kindness, compassion and empathy for the vulnerable. Or maybe it was it was just his natural God given big, warm, generous heart. He was the embodiment of a good man. We’re so sorry he’s gone.
Dear Carol, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Lawrence’s passing. My fondest memories of Lawrence are from the annual Trustee/Admin Christmas dinner. It was always a highlight to be seated at the same table as yourself and Lawrence given his dry wit and wealth of knowledge no matter the conversation. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Carol and Lawrence have been part of a Dinner Club that has wined and dined together for over 39 years. Over that period it was clear that Lawrence was a man who loved to eat and talk about food. Reminiscing on past dinners, I remember a time I was shucking oysters for the dinner group that was beginning to arrive. I heard someone behind me, Lawrence. He suggested we should try some oysters to make sure they were okay. We started eating them as fast as I could shuck them. Finally, both of us laughing, I said we have to stop and save some for the rest.
He was a thoughtful and gentle man, who one year near a Christmastime dinner presented the “girls” in the club with Christmas brooches. A lovely surprise.
Lawrence had a wry wit-his turns of phrase and extensive vocabulary always made his storytelling a unique and entertaining experience.
We will miss his presence at the dinner table and at the beer cooler. We will hoist a glass or two in his memory when next we get together.

A couple years back, I had a great time with him when he installed AC at my parents house. We went for pints at an unforgettable trashy bar on Broadview. Something about the no toothed bartender, and dirty bar stools clicked with us – we had multiple pints there – and I gave him a shirt with a picture of this bar on the front for Christmas. Just one of those many moments where he took a seemingly negative place, and made it unforgettable and positive.

Lawrence was the most wonderful guy you could know. He was a fountain of knowledge with the HVAC and home renno stuff and the best friend you could possibly have. He was a huge asset to the Richmond Hill Model Airplane club and he was admired by all the members where he will also be missed a great deal. Although the Toronto Electric Model Airplane Club didn’t see him that often, he was still respected as a good flyer and valuable member. Lawrence and I took cooking classes together and often went to lunch together with the TEMAC Morning Crew. He will be missed by his club members and especially by me, my best friend. Good flying my friend and happy landings forever.
I knew Lawrence for 25 years – we had the same outlook on life .We would work hard all day on
a furnace or A.C. Job but I would go home feeling that I’d had a good time. We always had a good lunch packed by his sister MaryFran I enjoyed his humorous banter and the many discussions on a large variety of topics. I totally agreed with. Good bye my friend. We’ll meet again.

Dear Carol and family My deepest condolences to you upon the passing of your loved one. Lossing him as a father and as a husband, as well as a friend is extremely sad. The way I know Lawrence is he is a kind person, a loving husband and a good father.Few months ago, Lawrence used to picked me up from my house and brought to his mother-law’s condo, coz I’m the caregiver of his mother-in-law. For a span of maybe two months that he was picking me up, I know Lawrence so well, he was a very funny man, full of sense of humor, not even a single minute that I stop laughing, his good sense of humor is a great stress buster. Those few times, I’ve learned that he was a great person, have a good heart and easy to get along with. He always tell me a story about his family and how proud he was of his children, Charles and Claire, and the way he raised them. And How proud He was as a husband and as a father. He always praised his family. And He was so excited to be a Grandpa. Lawrence you truly missed, for only few months that we kept on talking during those time that you picked me up, I learned a lot of good things aside from all your funny jokes, you are a man that make everyone’s heart happy of your good thoughts.and now you are in good hands and you find already a true happiness in the hands of our creator.Carol and the rest of the family your always in my thoughts and my prayers
When I knew him in the ’70s he was the kind of guy who wasn’t afraid to walk across an empty dance floor to ask the prettiest girl in the room to dance. With his Irish charm and good looks I don’t think one ever said no. He loved fast, beautiful cars, drinking and laughing with friends, and was very proud of his blue-collar tradesman roots. My 4 year-old grand-daughter still remembers the man who told her he had “boiled snakes for breakfast” when he came for a visit in 2019. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone (except perhaps the odd Liberal politician). God speed Lawrence.
Our hearts go out to you Carol, Claire and Charles at this most difficult time. Terry and I will truly miss Lawrence, as he always had a warm, happy smile and a kind and funny word, every time we met him walking down the street. He often carried a couple of beers in his hand to visit with his close neighbour and friend. Whenever we needed his help, he was always willing. There is a big hole in the hearts of the Dove Lane Family, but we know that all the neighbours will pull together to do whatever we can to help you.
Lawrence was a legend to me. He was the ultimate family man, always chill and smiling, and taking care of the people around him.
He was like a father to many of my siblings, and he will be missed and cherished forever.

What a tremendous loss to the friends and family of the Cotton’s. Lawrence was such a good man, One of the best. He was so incredibly kind to me, especially at a time I needed it most, he made me feel at home whenever I was over to dove lane for the many meals and summer evenings on the patio. I have incredibly fond memories of our talks, and holiday dinners together. He was always so curious about my life, how it was going and had a steel trap memory for details that he’d recall years between conversations. He had a knack for making you feel important by sprinkling in little tid bits that reminded you that he was genuinely listening and not just waiting to talk. This quality endeared Lawrence to me and I imagine so many others.
His jokes and phrases always made me bust with laughter and he was a captivating story teller . Collected from years of travel, and trade work, his vocabulary was razor sharp and exact, much like his wit. I always found time would lapse in great amounts as we laughed and told stories. I loved his company.
He was always vocal about unique places to eat that fit so well with his love for life. He seemed to have an ever expanding encyclopedic knowledge of the best dishes at the best restaurants to dine in a unique variety of neighbourhoods and food genres. I can remember vividly him stopping me and Charles on the driveway and regaling very passionately that a radio show he was listening to talked about a grilled blue cheese sandwich at the Shanghai cowgirl, he was incredibly motivated to drive downtown to try this sandwich, so much so he told us that if we went and tried this sandwich he would reimburse us in cash for trying it to give him a review on it. All we had to do was bring him a receipt as proof.
I will miss him incredibly, as such a spirit is so rare.

Lawrence and I met in 1971 while apprenticing at Metropolitan and became fast friends, and as it turned out life long friends. Lawrence was a Tradesman, and proud of it. He was the epitome of being a gentleman, envied by many and liked by all who met him. No finer friend could a person have.
We had many adventures together. The last being a tour in 2019 from Calgary to Victoria to see his sister Monica, and then up to Nanaimo to see Rob, and then back to Calgary. As per usual Lorenzo could sniff out a good place to eat and a pub with Guinness. When we were apprenticing he could always find a wee mom and pop eatery that made great toasted western sandwiches. The lad could eat, and loved a good meal. A few winters back he flew up to visit me and my wife cooked a turkey diner. Afterwards he complimented her on the fine meal, looked at me and said, you married well old son, she’s an excellent cook. We then retired to my den for single malt scotch.
Lawrence was and always will be the big brother I never had, I will miss him dearly.

Aside from my own family, no singular person has had anywhere near the same profound level of influence on the path of my life.
When we think back and replay the story of our lives, there are always moments that we can see our trajectory altered, for better or for worse. After that first day of installing air conditioners, my life could have played out very differently.
I could never properly imply the gravity of the affect he brought upon me with the written word.
I will say that each and every day spent working at a career built on the foundation he helped lay is a blessing, and will be an honour to his memory.

I also remember Lawrence during our Trustee Christmas dinners, and how he was always happy, positive and loved life. The Curriculum team was saddened by this news. As a teacher, he inspired students to pursue their interests and passions. As the OYAP and Dual Credit Consultant, he supported schools in providing many opportunities for students to discern various pathways. He was loved by all and will be missed. Lorenzo was a wonderful, kind, and witty man who will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten. I always admired how he went above and beyond for all students. I made a point after he retired to drop him a text now and then to say hello and he always came back with a response that made me smile and laugh followed by sister or pal. While at the CEC, I looked forward to the days when prochetta, steak on a bun or the annual turkey lunch were on the menu as those were some of Lorenzo’s favourites and we all knew he would provide us all with great story telling while enjoying his meal. My family and I will be sure to have a toast in your memory (pal) with a Guinness. There’s a special place for a man like Lorenzo both in heaven and in all our hearts. I was so sorry to hear about his passing and my heart goes out to his family and everyone that knew him. I had the pleasure and the privilege to meet Lawerence a few times and he was always so welcoming, kind, and hilarious – I only ever saw him smiling and cracking jokes!
Every memory I have of him was a happy one, as most people’s probably are. You can tell he loved his family an unmeasurable amount and it shows through each of them. I felt like I knew him better just through the way they would speak about him and how impactful he was towards everyone he met.
He seemed like he had an amazing fulfilled life, getting to spend so much time with his family, traveling, seeing his kids get married and meeting his beautiful granddaughter. He will never be forgotten.

Carol and family, I wish to extend my sincerest sympathy to you and yours. Lawrence was a truly wonderful person, he was respected by all who knew him. I really enjoyed working with Lawrence, so professional, knowledgeable and wise. He will be always be missed by all.

I am so deeply saddened and sorry for your loss. The stories shared here, and the love that is surrounding your family at this time are truly testaments to the man that Lawrence was and shall remain in our memories. I worked with him on Career Pathways projects at the board for a number of years and enjoyed every interaction with him immensely. All 3 of you were included regularly in our conversations. Reference to his “bride” or proud stories of Charles or Claire showed the immense love he had for you all. He was a joy to know, an amazing mentor to so many, and a gift to the world that I am grateful to have shared. I will think of him, as I always do, when I pass the Seaton Valley RC airfield and know that he is enjoying limitless flight.
My deepest condolences. I worked with Lawrence at the board office in the curriculum department. I will always cherish our conversations, his kind words and infinite words of wisdom. May he Rest In Peace and may his memory be a comfort and a blessing.

I was so saddened to hear about his passing. I had the honour of working with him on Careers and Pathways. He was so generous with his time and was so instrumental in providing funding so that elementary students could participate in activities that promoted the trades. He would set aside whatever he was working on to help with any question or problem. He would go out of his way to say hello whenever I visited the board office. Reading all the tributes posted showed that he was a prince among men!

We are so sorry for your loss. We have known Lawrence and your family since we moved over to Dove Lane a few years ago. Lawrence was a cheerful and helpful person . He had offered me tools when we were repairing our pool house in the backyard. We saw him sometimes when he came over to see Lloyd. We had some good conversations. We had some great moments together at our Christmas parties. His smiles will be missed! Dear Carol, Charles and Claire,
I was very saddened to hear the news of Lawrence’s death. Although he has left us with a void in our lives, I have memories of him that I will treasure forever.
I first met Lawrence at Fr. Bressani C.H.S. when we were teaching but did not have much interaction with him until I worked with him at St. Elizabeth C.H.S. As the Vice-Principal at that school, I was assigned the Tech Studies Department as one of my portfolios. It was a pleasure working with him and it was only then that I truly got to know him as a teacher, department head, HVAC technician, family man and most importantly as a friend.
Professionally, Lawrence was an excellent teacher who enjoyed relating with his students. He organized barbeque hot dogs and wings for students in his classes. I have been in education for well over 40 years and I have never seen any teacher host a barbeque for students. I used to visit him in his class, while he was teaching, and later on, he would and he would tell me funny episodes that took place in his classroom with some of his students.
Lawrence had a flair for the English language with his vocabulary. His unique combination of words always got my attention. For example, he used to refer to Carol as his “bride” as though he were recently married. One time, when we went to Oxenden to my cottage, he said he wanted to visit the “bone yard,” which was the term he used instead of the cemetery. I just could not believe his choice of words.
Lawrence was an excellent story-teller and he knew how to engage anyone into a conversation. When at the cottage, over his favourite beer, he narrated to me, with every detail, about his adventures crossing the Sahara Desert in a Bedford truck with two Canadians. It was so vivid, that I thought I was in the Bedford flying from one sand dune to the next. I will never forget the details of his trip and when he finished his story, I suggested to him, that when we retire, we should cross the desert again. Now, this will never be possible. When driving to the cottage, he would break the silence by saying “Now tell me….” And he would continue to talk about whatever was on his mind and engage ourselves in conversation.
If you ever had the opportunity to travel with Lawrence, you would agree with me when I say that he made a good travel companion. While driving back from the cottage, my van slipped on the snow and we ended in the ditch. He took it in his stride. You should have seen the look on his face. When it was all over and safely pulled out of the ditch by a tow truck, he told me never to apply brakes on a snow patch or ice on the road. Whenever we went to the cottage, he always wanted to go on the dinner cruise on the Chi Chi Maun from Tobermory to South Baymouth and back. He would always order the prime rib and have a beer. The next day, he always wanted to dive from the Big Bay Dock. After his dives, he would then insist on going to the nearby Big Bay General store to get his jumbo ice cream cone. No visit to the cottage would be complete without the trip to the neighbouring Cape Croker First Nation.
Lawrence was our go to Heating and Air Conditioning service man. He serviced our house and built our Heating ducts and installed our furnace and air-conditioner at our cottage. More recently, for my renovations at my Melbourne home, he argued with my HVAC designer about technical details and got the design changed to his way of thinking. Lawrence also helped my brothers with their heating and air-conditioning systems as well.
Above all, Lawrence was a good friend. He was a good listener, he was patient and kind, and he was a very reasonable man. He was definitely a family man and a proud father who always spoke to me about Claire and Charles and their accomplishments. My son Colin, when I texted him to inform him about Lawrence’s passing, he texted back by saying “I am sorry to hear that. He was unofficially one of the biggest influences in my career. I am upset to hear this news.”
I am very upset as well. I expected him to live till his nineties as his father did. His exit was much too early and we have to learn to live without him. Whenever I think of Lawrence, I remember his adventures of him crossing the Sahara Desert in a Bedford truck flying from one sand dune to the next. Perhaps that was his metaphor to life. He has crossed his earthly journey and is now safe in the palm of Our Lord’s Hands.
Once again, I extend my deepest condolences to Carol, Charles, Sarah, Claire, Orion, Frances and extended his extended family and their loved ones.

I just stumbled across this now. Sad to hear the news. Lawrence was assigned to be my practicum teacher through teachers college in 2007. He was a great leader and loved by all students. I remember making hammers in his metal class with the students. Later we used the hammers to tenderize the meat and make schnitzel. I still have pictures of the class cooking the schnitzel in class. He had great projects and was a excellent roll model. I remember him taking me to a school board meeting where they were planning a new school. It was a great experience he gave me during my practicum. He will be missed.
