elevated PyHhX The Legrove family announces with sorrow, the passing of Leo Legrove on February 11, 2026, at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Marie Francoise (“Frances”). Loving father of Anne-Marie, Gerald, and Richard; father-in law of Nolan and Deborah. Devoted grandfather of Scott, Mark, Aaron, and Alexander, and grandfather-in-law of Sarah. Cherished great grandfather of Leo who was named in his honour. His passing is preceded by his parents, Leo and Winnifred, and his brother Frank, and sister-in-law, Geraldine (“Gerry”).
elevated PyHhX He will be lovingly remembered and missed. Following Leo’s wishes a private immediate family service was held, with burial at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Mississauga.
elevated PyHhX Born April 23, 1933, in Montreal, to Leo and Winnifred (nee Garceau). From an early age, Leo distinguished himself through both athletic and academic achievement. At just sixteen years old, he became the Quebec Junior Champion in golf, beginning a lifelong passion for the sport in which he excelled for decades. He was also an outstanding hockey player and competed at a very high level, including several games with the Montreal Junior Canadiens. Leo graduated from Loyola College (now Concordia University) in 1954 with a Bachelor of Commerce. He later pursued graduate studies at the University of Toronto, earning his MBA in 1960, where he graduated second in his class.
elevated PyHhX Leo went on to build an exceptional career in finance. Initially he worked at the Federal Business Development Bank. Then, joining Roynat Capital (originally RoyNat Ltd.) in the early 1960s, he became one of the firm’s most respected leaders. In 1989 he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer and served as a member of the Board of Directors from 1989 to 1994. Throughout his career he was widely admired for his integrity, judgment, and leadership, earning the respect and affection of colleagues across Canadian business.
elevated PyHhX Leo was the beloved husband of Marie Francoise Caron, with whom he shared nearly 68 devoted years of marriage. The couple met at the wedding of friends, where Marie Francoise was the soloist and they felt an instant connection. After a brief courtship they became engaged and were married in 1958. Together they built a loving family and a life defined by love, loyalty, dedication, and deep mutual respect.
elevated PyHhX Once retired Leo and Frances enjoyed traveling through Europe, and spending winters watching beautiful sunsets and making good friends on Siesta Key Beach.
elevated PyHhX They shared a love of classical music. A lifetime highlight for Leo was accompanying his wife to New York and seeing her sing with the Sarasota Choral Society performance of the Christmas part of Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall.
elevated PyHhX Leo’s Catholic faith was fundamental to his life and values, and he became an Extraordinary Minister at his parish. His support of Covenant House, Providence Healthcare, and The War Amps was also important to him.
elevated PyHhX Leo will be remembered most for his character, his quiet strength, and the deep love he held for his family. To those closest to him, he was not only an extraordinary man but also a steadfast husband, a proud father, a devoted grandfather and great grandfather, and a personal hero.
elevated PyHhX He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and the many colleagues whose lives he influenced throughout his long and distinguished life. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the many people who were fortunate enough to know him.
