It is with profound sadness that the family of Leopoldina (Dina) Miranda announce her passing on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the age of 100. Dina passed away peacefully at Michael Garron Hospital, East York, surrounded by her loving and devoted children.
Born in Vasco da Gama, Goa, India, Dina Fernandes married Sebastian Miranda and immigrated to Uganda at age 20. Raised in Goa, Dina spoke Konkani and Portuguese fluently. Being a quick study, she quickly mastered Swahili, Luganda, English, and Gujarati. Together with Sebastian they ran a very successful general store in Mpigi. Dina thrived there until the Asian Expulsion of 1972.
Moving to Canada in 1976, Dina enjoyed the company of other senior Goans at the CanOrient East Club. Together with her husband Sebastian, they travelled the world.
Dina lived a life shaped by hard work and devotion to her family. She will be missed sorely by her children Dominic (Sandy), Veronica D’Souza (late Ornel), Rose Vales (Michael), Bella Braganza (Edmund), Ruth Pelliccione (Delio) and Walter; her grandchildren: Sebastian Miranda, Michelle Harris (Victor); Clint D’Souza, Janene Christiansen (Thomas); Steven Vales (Isabel) and Abigail Vales; Stephanie Braganza (Filip Plaskota) and Sebastian Braganza (Jan); and Joseph (Julia) and Matthew (Jessica) Pelliccione. Dina is survived by 14 great-grandchildren: Dominic and Gavin Harris; Nathaniel D’Souza, Daniel and Ethan Christiansen; Brayden, Anthony and Cameron Anklesaria; Sofi Braganza; and Roman, Vincent, Elizabeth, Robert and Marcus Pelliccione.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill. Funeral mass will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the chapel of St. Joseph in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Reception to follow at Holy Cross Funeral Home. All who knew and loved Dina, are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our Dearest Aunty Leopoldina. Our hearts go out to you all during this incredibly difficult time.
We feel especially grateful that we had the chance to meet and celebrate the centenary of our ever-loving Aunty last year (our very first trip to Canada). Dearest Dominic, Veronica, Rose, Bella, Ruth, Walter and family,
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of my best friend. I fondly remember spending time with all of you. I have been blessed to have you all as my good friends. I enjoyed regularly chatting with Mom, we had wonderful chats. I loved her visits in Florida over the years – we had a lot of fun shopping, eating Goan food and playing cards.
I will miss Mom very much. I will pray for her and all of you. Your Mom will bless each of you for the wonderful care you took of her.
May Mom’s beautiful soul rest in peace.
Love always, Bernardine, Genevieve and Mohamed
