elevated I4Ra1 The family announces with deep sorrow the passing of their sister Lilian Maria Carnovale at Sunnybrook Hospital on April 19th. Born in Timmins, Ontario on September 1, 1942 she attended O’Gorman High School and then came to Toronto to earn her B.A. and B.Ed. degrees at the University of Toronto as well as her ARCT. Lilian spent her entire working career as a teacher with the Toronto Catholic School Board and specialized in teaching children with special needs.
elevated I4Ra1 Lilian is survived by her sister Florence, and brothers Ben (Jane), Ray (Avril) and pre-deceased by Albert (2006). She is also survived by her six nephews: Chris, Ben, Andy (Barb), Ken (Janet), Michael (Johanna), Alec (Elisa) and by her niece Catherine as well as her great-nephews; James and Lucas. Lilian was predeceased by her parents John (1978) and Immacolata (1995).
elevated I4Ra1 The funeral Mass will take place on Monday April 24th at 12:00 at Holy Cross Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Rd E, Thornhill. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 12:00, reception following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sick Children’s Hospital would be much appreciated. Interment in Timmins at a later date.

Just stumbled on this obituary on the passing of Miss Carnovale. She was my grade 5 teacher at St Davids in Toronto many years ago.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lilian the year my husband went to teach at St. David’s Catholic School in Toronto’s west end many decades ago. Our paths met again many decades later when I returned to teaching in Scarborough at St. Lawrence Catholic School.
Lilian~ such a dear and kind friend. Intelligent, helpful, strong, thoughtful and generous; in all aspects of life both professionally and through all of life’s challenging situations.
Lilian had a gift of listening and would always guide others on their own rightful path. Lilian was a formidable and excellent mentor and educator. She could answer any questions about Education, and advise on IPRCs, IEPs, curriculum enrichment or accommodations. She was a rock and motivator both at school and beyond. Lilian loved movie nights out with her dear friends and was a consumate and gracious hostess of Dominoes games night and many holiday festivities.
Lilian you will always be part of our social gatherings and at our table. Lilian will remain in our hearts forever. You will not be forgotten.

Saddened to read of the death of Lilian yet glad to have known her as we taught together at St. David’s school in Toronto. She was an excellent teacher who loved her students and wanted the best for them. Our times in the staff room were always interesting and lively when Lilian was around.
Unfortunately I cannot attend tomorrow. Condolences to the family as you celebrate her life and mourn your loss.
May she rest in peace….in Timmins, a place she was proud to call home.
I’m a former St David’s student and had the pleasure of having Miss Carnovale as my grade 5 teacher. She was so patient and always supportive of her students. As I read the messages, I was also a student of Mr Calderone!
May she rest in eternal peace.
