elevated X1UaA Grieve not…nor speak of me with tears…but laugh and talk of me…as though I were beside you. I loved you so… ‘twas heaven here with you.
Marie was a great person. As Caroline’s (Butter) husband, we did not have many get-togethers, but they were always enjoyable. Marie reminded me of Caroline’s mother (Aunt Cad.)
Debbie introduced me to her mother Marie McAuliffe in 1970 when I was 15. Mrs. McAuliffe impressed me with her strong qualities: humorous, nurturing and straightforward. Over time I would learn of her courage as well: facing down a huge banana spider…and facing life challenges with strength and grace. I admire similar qualities in my dear friend Debbie.
I have been privileged to know the McAuliffe family, and fortunate that I’ve been welcomed. While full time manager of a credit union (and manager of the household) Marie somehow found time for evening visits with Debbie, Kevin and I over tea at the family table. We listened to Marie’s good story telling and sage advice. Often we would let loose our quirky humours with gales of laughter and shaking shoulders…old fashioned good times.
Many more good times are remembered with Debbie, Kevin and Mr. and Mrs. McAuliffe… celebrating Canada Day in Ottawa, staying at the family cottage on White Lake or camping at Kevin’s site nearby, and learning more about their very interesting family history.
Thank you Marie McAuliffe,
and God Bless
