elevated IX8lv Forever In Our Hearts and Memories

elevated IX8lv It is with unbearable sorrow that we share with you the passing of Lucia DePinto, peacefully at home in the morning of Christmas Eve, one month after her 90th birthday. Lucia (“Lucy”) ended her short battle with cancer and joined Jesus, her husband Nicola, infant son Michele, daughter Mary Gagne and son Michael in Heaven. She will be deeply missed and treasured forever by daughter Rochelle Wiesenfahrt and son-in-law Robert. The ultimate Matriarch, Lucy was adored and lovingly called “Grams” by Grandson Paul van der Spuy (Saskia), Granddaughter Lucia Tumber (Kent), Grandsons Jay Gagne, and Nick Hancock; and was a cherished “Big Nonna” (she was tiny) to Great-Grandchildren Kate-Lynn Avbar, Myles and Owen Tumber and Luke and Rylan van der Spuy. Lucy was born in Sannicandro, Bari, Italy on November 24, 1930 to Nicola and Maria Lagrasta (nee Valerio) and was predeceased by siblings Oronzo Lagrasta, Rosa Mastandrea, Anna Novielli, Giuseppe Lagrasta, Santina Ferrante, and is survived by Gaetano and Benito Lagrasta. She was loved deeply and will be missed but never forgotten by many friends and relatives with whom she shared her life.

elevated IX8lv Lucy will be remembered as a caring, loving, hard-working, gorgeous, tough-as-nails woman, with a sense of humour that can never be forgotten. She had a fighting spirit; one that pulled her through all of life’s hardships. She was blessed with a full life too, enjoying many family get-togethers over the years, including road trips to New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio to visit distant cousins. She loved the sun and the ocean and holidays in Florida and Mexico. Lucy devoted her life to her family and she proudly valued her Italian heritage and embraced the Canadian way of life. Her famous last words were “we have to accept this and just carry on…carry on Lucy…carry on!”. She did exactly that; Lucy carried on with strength, humour, poise and grace and that is how she will be remembered in all our hearts forever.

elevated IX8lv “Rest in peace dear Mother, Grams and Big Nonna, until we meet again!”

elevated IX8lv Cremation took place on January 4, 2021 through the care of Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home (Thornhill).  Entombment and a Celebration of Life will be held when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
