Obituary

elevated w1L1L It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luigi Scanga.  Luigi passed away on Monday September 11th 2023, peacefully and surrounded by Family.  Our hearts weigh heavy as we cherish the wonderful memories of a Loving Husband, Amazing Father, Wonderful Nonno and Trusted Friend.  Beloved Husband to Maria, Father to Teresa Hunter (Tony Sgambelluri), Laura Scanga (Paul Howarth) & Salvatore (Robin) Scanga, Nonno to Cassandra (predeceased), Lauren (Kyle), Calum, Jacob, Sydney, Olivia, Luigi & Lukas.  Brother to Raffaela Posteraro (Genesio) Maria Bellissimo (Frank), Francesca Marcelli (Pietro). 

elevated w1L1L Born May 24,1941 in Lago Cosenza Italy. His Father Salvatore and mother Teresa Naccarato moved their family to Canada in 1957 in search of a better life.  Through the help of family & friends in particular the Laghitani Community of Toronto Luigi was able to flourish in Canada.

elevated w1L1L Luigi was an accomplished musician affectionately known as Maestro Luigi Scanga, who was proud of his time with CHIN Radio. He had wonderful years playing internationally at the CHIN Winter Picnics and hosting his weekly radio program “Talenti a la Finestra”.  He loved his time with his CHIN Family.

elevated w1L1L Luigi was an exceptional community leader.  He spent years volunteering with the Aurora Rotary Club (Former Past President) and helped many Italo Canadians find a voice on the radio.  He volunteered with local churches playing piano and often volunteered to play at Retirement Homes to brighten the days of many. He was leader of many bands including Echi d’Italia

elevated w1L1L Luigi was an accomplished Restaurateur.  He was an owner of the Atrium Banquet Hall (Aurora), Regina Restaurant & Regina Pizzeria (Toronto).  Luigi spent years operating at the CNE & CHIN Picnic along with countless other events.

elevated w1L1L Always smiling, happy and full of life.  Luigi always made people feel welcome and loved.  You could trust that Luigi would offer a helping hand. 

elevated w1L1L He lived an exceptional life and touched many people throughout his journey.  He will be loved forever. 

elevated w1L1L Luigi will be missed but will remain in our hearts forever.
