elevated 2JOxj Obituary
elevated 2JOxj Peacefully at McKenzie Health on January 21, 2026, at the age of 103.
elevated 2JOxj Predeceased by his dearly beloved wife of 71 years, Leonida. Loving father of Robert (Brenda). Cherished Nonno of Clarke (Ildikó) and Alanna (Tim). Bisnónno of Julia, Maya, Leo and Sienna. Brother of Elio, deceased in 2020.
elevated 2JOxj Born in Camino al Tagliamento, Provincia di Udine, Italy.
elevated 2JOxj Upon the death of his father at a young age, Luigi apprenticed as a tailor at age 11 and left school to become the sole family provider when he was only 14 years old.
elevated 2JOxj At age 19, he was conscripted into the army where he trained and served as a “Marconista” (specialized radio telegrapher). He survived several close calls during WW2, including a front row seat as torpedoes skimmed just under the hull of his small transport boat. A much larger boat, from which he had just been transferred moments before, was hit and sunk. “Lucky to be here,” he often said.
elevated 2JOxj In the difficult economic years following WW2, Luigi left behind his family and his home to seek a better life in Canada, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax in March, 1951. Following his arrival in Toronto on Thursday, March 29, he had a job interview scheduled at the T. Eaton Company Limited on March 30. He began working there as a tailor on the following Monday until he retired in 1987.
elevated 2JOxj Blessed with the solid values and strong work ethic ingrained in so many who emigrated from the Friuli region of Italy, Luigi and his equally committed partner in life, Leonida, overcame the initial inevitable hardships that faced newcomers here and built a wonderful life for the family in Canada.
elevated 2JOxj Soccer was his passion though. Legend has it that Luigi took his first $50 earned in Canada to purchase a Phillips shortwave radio so that he could tune into 3 hours of Serie “A” games live from Italy every Sunday morning. This ritual was sacred and heaven forbid should anyone interrupt him.
elevated 2JOxj After retirement, he joined the Famèe Furlane Social Club where he served as President of its Senior’s group (known as the “Gruppo Età d’Oro”) for over 20 years. As it did for many who emigrated from this Northeast corner of Italy, the Famèe Furlane provided its members with a lively, hospitable community in which to socialize and share stories born from common experiences. It was essential to the well-being of its members and a mainstay of Luigi’s post-retirement life right to the very end.
elevated 2JOxj The family would like to sincerely thank Cortellucci Vaughn Hospital, McKenzie Health and their entire teams of dedicated caregivers for their outstanding support in bringing comfort to us all during his final days.
elevated 2JOxj The visitation will be held at Queen of Heaven Funeral Home, 7300 Hwy 27, Woodbridge, Ontario, on Monday January 26, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass in the chapel at 12:00 p.m.
elevated 2JOxj Entombment will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery at St. Anthony’s Mausoleum. Reception will follow at the funeral home.
elevated 2JOxj In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Dear Zio. So many good memories of how supportive you and Zia both were. I hope you knew how special you were, I may have told you a few times. It was very difficult to witness your journey, but to know you are reunited with Zia I know that you are now happy and at peace. Always near to my heart.

What a man ,always with a big smiled .Also extremely intelligent ..To the family my sincere condolences for A man that I know and respected for his achievement in life and for what he did for the friulanI in Toronto during his tenure as President of the CLUB ETA D’ORO .
Our most profound and deeply felt regrets to the Tedesco Family for their loss. All members at The Gruppo Eta’ d’Oro will miss him for the ever present dedicated years as President and friend. The weekly card games of Rummy have not been the same since his health and his aging forced Gigi to stay home. His unavoidable absences leaves a big empty space in the hart of all his friends at The Famee Furlane G.E.d’O.
On behalf of My Family Blasutta, our heartfelt “Condolences”.
My sincere condolences to the family. I remember Luigi’s smile and his positive guidance of the Eta d’Oro.
Our deepest condolences to the entire Tedesco family. Luigi was a constant pillar and part of the threads that make the Famee Furlane Toronto what it is today. He lived an extraordinary life and will always be remembered for his dedication, support and friendship he so eloquently displayed within our community.
It was always a welcomed sight to see Luigi playing cards at the Famee Furlane on Wednesdays at over 100 years of age!
He would always say hello to me and ask me how my father was doing as I went in to do some paperwork in the office.
Condolences to the family.
