elevated Up6ZE Obituary

elevated Up6ZE Luisa, our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Toronto on July 5th at the wonderful age of 93 with her family by her side.

elevated Up6ZE Pre-deceased by her beloved husband Bino, Luisa leaves behind her son Frank, daughter-in-law Serena, her cherished grandchildren: Peter, Michael (Ashtyn) and Danielle (James), as well as Jeannine Raab (Serena’s mom), her treasured friend of many years.

elevated Up6ZE Luisa was born in Pola, Italy on December 13, 1930. Her memories of the first decade of her life were warm and nostalgic, filled with stories of Pola and the summers spent with her beloved grandmother in the tiny sleepy village of Gallesano. The beginning of the war changed all of that, marking the second decade of her life with heartbreak, including the death of her father and the loss of her homeland, becoming a refugee at the age of 17. That all changed when at 18 she was reacquainted with Bino, a neighbour from Pola, and a love affair soon blossomed. They married quickly and emigrated to Canada in 1951, determined to embrace a bright future rather than dwell on a tragic past.

elevated Up6ZE Despite the typical struggles many immigrants face, their early years in Montreal were filled with friendship, celebration, and discovery as they built their new life together. Luisa’s sewing skills led to her career as a highly talented sample maker, working with designers in the women’s fashion industry. The arrival of their only child, Frank, changed their lives forever, bringing Luisa and Bino the tremendous joy and fulfilment of parenthood. When Frank met Serena, Luisa gained not only a loving daughter, but in Serena’s parents, Alex and Jeannine, Luisa gained two of her dearest friends.

elevated Up6ZE The final stage of her life was full, long, and joyous. It began with a move to Richmond Hill and focused on the lives of her treasured grandchildren and the establishment of a new web of friendships, centered largely on Serena’s extended family and a close group of dear friends.

elevated Up6ZE Luisa’s life was characterized by her boundless love, enthusiasm, and warmth. She expressed her love easily through her beautiful smile, tender touch, and kind words. Her love language was feeding people, and many had the pleasure of sitting at her table for one of her wonderful meals. Her empathy, generosity, and kindness will forever be remembered by those whose lives she enriched.
