elevated eB5NL Maria de Jesus Batista Ataide, 87 of Toronto, passed away on May 7th, 2020 at Kipling Acres Retirement Home of complications from Covid-19.
elevated eB5NL Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Funeral Home and the Chapel of St. Joseph on May 11th at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
elevated eB5NL Maria was born in 1932 in Luz, Graciosa, Azores to Manuel and Germina Bettencourt; the third of four children.
elevated eB5NL She married Heliodoro Espinola Ataide on October 30, 1952 in Luz, and immigrated to Canada with her husband in 1959. She had one son, John Ataide, born in Toronto in 1960.
elevated eB5NL Maria was an accomplished seamstress who worked many years in Toronto’s garment industry.
elevated eB5NL Maria was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents and two older brothers.
elevated eB5NL She is survived by her sister Rita, sister-in-law Guilhermina, two nephews, two nieces; as well as ten great nieces and nephews.
elevated eB5NL She will be dearly missed.
