elevated 9NvMQ Maria de Jesus Batista Ataide, 87 of Toronto, passed away on May 7th, 2020 at Kipling Acres Retirement Home of complications from Covid-19.
elevated 9NvMQ Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Funeral Home and the Chapel of St. Joseph on May 11th at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
elevated 9NvMQ Maria was born in 1932 in Luz, Graciosa, Azores to Manuel and Germina Bettencourt; the third of four children.
elevated 9NvMQ She married Heliodoro Espinola Ataide on October 30, 1952 in Luz, and immigrated to Canada with her husband in 1959. She had one son, John Ataide, born in Toronto in 1960.
elevated 9NvMQ Maria was an accomplished seamstress who worked many years in Toronto’s garment industry.
elevated 9NvMQ Maria was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents and two older brothers.
elevated 9NvMQ She is survived by her sister Rita, sister-in-law Guilhermina, two nephews, two nieces; as well as ten great nieces and nephews.
elevated 9NvMQ She will be dearly missed.
