elevated RwcDi In Loving Memory of Maria do Sacramento Simões
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maria, predeceased by her husband Carlos. A devoted and loving mother to Isidro (Lila) and Dalia, grandmother to Sergio, Jorge (Carol), David, Jason, and Michael, and great grandmother to Soraia, Pedro, and Ximena who passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025 at the age of 91. She will also be deeply missed by her 2 sisters Idalina and Iria, all her nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends. Born in Portugal, Maria brought with her a deep love for family, tradition, and hard work when she immigrated to Canada in pursuit of a better life. A strong and courageous woman, she left her homeland, the only place she knew, to risk it all in immigrating to Canada to give her children the prospect of a better life. There she settled and remained, always in a spirit of self-sacrifice and in acts of love for others, namely her family. Many were touched by her kindness and warm spirit. She was one who never put herself first; always preferring to attend to the needs of her family, whatever those would be. She built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of her most excellent cooking . Many meals were enjoyed by her and her family to the culinary excellence of her love for food and cooking. To break bread with her loved ones always gave her joy and inner satisfaction. The dinner table— a place where her love was always at the center. For her family she was always the rock, the pillar, the security blanket one knew was always there for them. Maria also opened her home to extended family members from Portugal, who likewise made the journey to Canada in search of a better life. Her Christian faith was embodied in her daily life, manifested to all in her kindness, humility, generosity, and upright morals. She helped those who needed it, was merciful, comforted the sick, even the imprisoned and embodied the beatitudes as taught by Our Lord. Maria will be remembered for her kind heart, strength and courage, and unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith and her family. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished above all else, and the Catholic faith she transmitted to three generations of descendants. In closing, we would like give special thanks to the Doctors and hospital staff at Toronto Grace Health Centre with special acknowledgment to Dr. Zaheen, Dr. Burns, and Dr. Barrett.
