elevated TQriH 1928 ~ 2021

elevated TQriH Maria (Ditta) Simone passed away at her home in Thornhill on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, just shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born January 29, 1928 in Vita, Sicily and was the beloved daughter of the late Vincenzo and Rosaria (Scavuzzo) Ditta. Four years later her loving sister Giovanna was born. Maria married her beloved husband Giuseppe Simone in Vita in 1946 and their daughter, Francesca (Frances) was born in 1947. The family moved to Toronto in 1949 where Maria and Giuseppe had three more children – Vito (Bill), Vincenzo (Vince) and Rosario (Ross). Maria worked tirelessly for over 30 years at Toronto Grace Hospital while raising her beautiful family. She never missed her morning exercise up until just a year before her passing. She taught herself how to read, write and speak English. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Giuseppe. She was extremely proud of her four children and fourteen grandchildren. The size of Maria’s family is a testament to her love, hard work and dedication to her family. Proud mother to her four children and their spouses: Frances Accardi (widow to the late Salvatore Accardi), Bill Simone married to Celine Simone, Vince Simone married to Mirella Simone and Ross Simone married to Rosemary Simone. Maria is also survived by her 14 grandchildren and spouses: Anne Marie Accardi married to Luigi Arcuri, Mark Accardi, Joe Accardi married to Christina Accardi, Christine Simone, Justin Simone, Emilie Simone, Benjamin Simone, Michael Simone, Laura Simone, Melissa Simone, Megan Simone, Julie Simone, Abby Simone and Brian Simone. Maria is survived by her sister Giovanna. Great grandmother to Nicolas, Luna, and Veronica. We will miss but never forget your kindness, your generosity, your delicious cooking, your infectious smile, listening to you sing Rose Rosse, your amazing dancing and how you loved to wear blue to match your beautiful blue eyes.
