elevated 124yk It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria “Teresa” Marando on September 21, 2026.
elevated 124yk Born on January 29, 1935, in Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, Reggio Calabria, Italy, our treasured matriarch was called to the Lord peacefully at Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan in her 92nd year.
elevated 124yk Maria “Teresa” will be welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband, Giuseppe Marando, and her treasured son, Tony Marando, as well as her parents, Francesco and Giulia Lopresti. She will be dearly missed by her beloved children Carmine and Emily, Domenic and Darlene, Rosanne, and Frank and Marianne; her cherished grandchildren Adam (Christina), Dylan (Elise), Philip (Alissa), Joey (Sara), Nicole, Victoria (Alexandra), Joshua, Reid (Samantha), and Luke; as well as her darling great-grandchildren Madalena, Marco, Nicolas, and Isabella.
elevated 124yk In 1962, at the age of 27, Maria “Teresa” bravely left her beloved hometown in southern Calabria to sail across the ocean to Canada. She made the journey with her first three sons in her arms and by her side, leaving behind everything she knew and loved, unaware of what the future might hold. Her beloved husband, Giuseppe, anxiously awaited her in Canada with the promise of a better life. Together, Maria “Teresa” and Giuseppe worked relentlessly to build that better life for their family.
elevated 124yk A talented homemaker, dressmaker, and master of all things that brought her family together, Maria “Teresa” was a woman of remarkable strength, determination, and perseverance. She spent her life building, guiding, and supporting the family she loved so deeply. With her wisdom, unwavering love, and steadfast presence, she helped shape the lives of her husband, her four boys, her daughters-in-laws and the generations that followed. There was never a family gathering or meal too large that she couldn’t single-handedly manage. Her famous meatballs, the centrepiece of so many family meals, will never be replicated.
elevated 124yk Her stories, wisdom, and advice will never be forgotten, as they were shared often, right up until the very last weeks of her life. Maria “Teresa’s” greatest legacy will forever be the family she built, the love she gave so freely, and the traditions and memories she fostered.
elevated 124yk We remain forever grateful to our dear matriarch for the life she gave us, the love she shared, and the family she brought together. We will carry her with us always and pray for her eternal peace.

Our sincerest condolences. We are sure that zia is safe and warm in the loving arms of Jesus, reunited with those who went before her. She passed with dignity surrounded by love and respect.
I will remember her for her joy at receiving an occasional phone call by me (Avelina). She was always grateful. May she rest in peace in perpetual light.

May she rest in peace. I still treasure our meeting in 1995 when I was in Toronto for a meeting, meeting her, Joe, all the kids and great aunt Giuliana with my newborn daughter in tow. Still feel bad I missed great aunt Imaculata that day. But When Teresa made her mother understand that here is you brother Rocco’s grand son and great grand daughter it just brought the visit to another level! Wish we had made it for dinner, but sans that it was a treasured moment in time!

My heart goes out to all of you (Carmine ,Emily,Domenic, Darlene, Roseanne, Frank and Marianne as you say goodbye to your mom. Ninety-two years is a long & beautiful life, but I know that no amount of time ever feels like enough when you lose your mother. My mom enjoyed her talks with your mom so much in the recent few years.
I hope you find comfort in knowing how much she loved you and your children. It will always remain a special part of your heart. She was blessed to have all of you to love, and you were blessed to have her as your Mom.

Maria Teresa, Teresina, but to me and my cousins, she was always Tita.
She was a dear friend to my mother, Esterina and my aunts, along with their cousin Silvia. They were truly sisters at heart. Childhood friends who later found themselves living in a new country, all seamstresses, and always just a phone call away.
Your mom was the quiet, shy one to me and always had a warm ‘Ciao si Marina’ whenever we saw each other. I will always remember her kindness and gentle spirit.
May the memories of family gatherings continue to live on in your hearts and homes.
