It is with deep sorrow and love that our family announces the peaceful passing of Marie Delphine D’Souza (née Goveas) of Toronto, Ontario, on August 21, 2026, just one day shy of her 74th birthday.
elevated 4Q4bY Surrounded by the warmth of her family and friends, Marie departed this life leaving behind a beautiful legacy of faith, resilience, and friendship.
elevated 4Q4bY Born on August 22, 1952, in Karachi, Pakistan, to Joyce (Britto) and Robert Goveas, Marie was a woman of intellect and capability.
elevated 4Q4bY She attended St. Joseph’s, where her bright mind shone as she graduated with a distinction in Mathematics. Her professional years in Karachi were marked by her versatility, serving both as a teacher and an executive secretary.
elevated 4Q4bY In 1978, Marie married Christopher D’Souza in Karachi. Their life together was an adventure, traveling the world by ship for Christopher’s work. They shared cherished memories exploring distant ports of call, including Japan and Holland, before his untimely passing in 1989.
elevated 4Q4bY Faced with unimaginable loss, Marie’s love for her three children—Antonio, Donella, and Edward—became her guiding force.
elevated 4Q4bY In 1996, she bravely immigrated with them to Toronto, Canada. Through hard work and grit, Marie successfully built a new life and a secure foundation for her family.
elevated 4Q4bY In 2002, Marie found love again and started a new chapter in life when she married James Creagh. They remained together until Jim’s passing in November, 2025.
elevated 4Q4bY Throughout her life’s many chapters, she remained deeply anchored in her Catholic faith. As a devout and dedicated member of the congregation at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica, she found purpose and community. One of the spiritual highlights of her later years was making a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, fulfilling a dream she had held for many years.
elevated 4Q4bY Marie’s resilient spirit lives on in her children: Antonio D’Souza (Karen Okomoto), Donella Held (David Held) and Edward D’Souza, and grandchildren Chris, Ria, Ira, and Jasper.
elevated 4Q4bY We will miss you, our dear Mum and Grandma. Until we meet again, may you rest in eternal peace.
elevated 4Q4bY An interment service will take place on September 26th.
elevated 4Q4bY In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Marie’s honour be made to St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica or Share Life.
