elevated EhaQJ Obituary
Mary Christine de Souza, of Burlington, Ontario passed away on July 24th, 2023, at the age of eighty-one. Christine faced life, and death, with quiet strength and grace. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years, Eden.
elevated EhaQJ Christine, or Kitty, as she was known to her close friends and family, was born in Karachi, Pakistan to Joseph P. Lobo and Erminia Lobo. She was one of eight children: brothers Simon, George, Albert (late) and Bishop Anthony Lobo (late) and sisters, Joyce (late), Thelma, and Helen. Christine and Eden were married in 1968 and emigrated from Karachi to Canada in 1970. Together they lived in Scarborough, Ontario, where she taught kindergarten through grade 6, and played the organ at Our Lady of the Rosary. Kitty loved entertaining guests and traveling, planting, and tending to her garden, watching birds, and baking cheese straws. In the evening, she would relax with a glass of red wine, watching CNN, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy.
elevated EhaQJ Kitty’s jet-setting lifestyle took her around the world, and most recently to Egypt in her 80th year. Kitty’s generous personality allowed her to make friends everywhere she went, including at her most recent home, Tansley Woods. During the COVID lockdown, her daily Zoom rosary with the D’Cruz family kept her going and her spirits up. She also led the senior singing group on Zoom.
elevated EhaQJ Her family would like to thank relatives and friends who did so much for her, as well as the doctors, nurses, and personal support workers at the Village of Tansley Woods, and Scarborough Health Network. This support allowed Christine to live comfortably and pass away peacefully and with dignity in her own home, as was her wish. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider contributing to the Lung Health Foundation (Canada) or planting a tree in your yard in memory of her. Click here to donate.
I will miss you dearly Christine. We spent so much time travelling and pub crawling! You have now earned a better life. God’s speed.
I met Christine when we worked together as teachers at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Scarborough. She was a kind and dedicated teacher and friend. Sympathies to Christine’s family and friends. May she find the rewards of eternal life.
Rest In Eternal life Christine!

I will miss my gardening buddy with whom I had long conversations. Aunty Kitty, you had a green thumb, and were always ready to share your tried and true techniques with us. I will remember you every year when my perennials, many of which started as “dundas “ bloom.
Kudos to your mastering the computer and cell phone in your 70’s, and even teaching your D’Cruz zoom family to make patties via Zoom.
You have missed your Eden for 9 long years, and now you are together again. We love you.

Dear Aunt Kitty, May you rest in peace and rise in glory. Still sad Covid stooped your European trip when we were due to meet in London. Fond memories of you in Toronto and at Lobo family celebrations. Thoughts and prayers for family and friends xx

Christine was such a wonderful person, I truly wish I had the opportunity to have made Christine. May Christine’s Soul Rest in Peace. God Bless Christine’s family and give them strength during this difficult time.
I had the pleasure of knowing dear Christine and also her departed brother Albert who was a good friend in school and college with me ever since the 1950’s decade in Karachi. We resumed our friendship with Christine and Eden some years later after moving to Canada. We resumed our meetings and had numerous close associations with the DeSouza family ever since. I can say that Christine was one of a few genuinely honest, endearing and likeable persons I have ever known. Words cannot describe what a wonderful and religious person she was. Will pray that she now is reaping her well earned rewards together with her beloved Eden and all the other angels in heaven. Will certainly meet again, sooner or later.
Rest in peace Christine!
I was kept informed of sad events, but could not visit Canada. Caring for little great-grandchildren keeps me going, I get them from granddaughter’s house, 20 miles away, near Fr. Flanagan’s Boys’ Town, take them out to play, eat, bathe, and return, often 100 miles daily with shopping at various places.
It was good to see and hear the funeral service from the site I was given. Thank you all for helping. Simon.
