elevated bsYCt It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Mary Patricia Currie (McGinn), loving wife of John Currie (deceased) and beloved mother of Mary Kate and Michael on Saturday, July 31, 2021. Mary died peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital after a sudden illness.
elevated bsYCt Mary was born in 1937 and was a lifelong Torontonian. Mary attended St Peter’s and St Anselm’s grade schools, followed by Loretto Abbey. She graduated from St Michael’s School of Nursing in 1959 as a Registered Nurse and had a long and fulfilling career in healthcare. Mary worked at St Michael’s hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society, St Elizabeth Visiting Nurses, completed a long-term care certificate at Ryerson and established her own eldercare company. Mom loved being a nurse, and it showed.
elevated bsYCt Mary’s greatest joy however was her family. Mary married her husband Jack in 1961 and moved to Leaside soon after, where they raised their two children and attended St Anselm’s parish. In 2000 they moved to Blessed Trinity Parish where they made many more wonderful friends. Mary and Jack also enjoyed being Florida snowbirds for many years.
elevated bsYCt Mom was a tall, elegant lady, who loved music, dancing, fashion, travelling, meeting new people and spending time with family & old friends. She had a big, kind heart, a ready smile and loved to have fun.
elevated bsYCt The family will receive friends at the Holy Cross Funeral Home, 8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill, on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. and at Blessed Trinity Parish (3220 Bayview Ave, North York) from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4th. Michael & Mary Kate, Dorothy and I send our condolences and love in the passing of your Mom. I remember the time Michael & I convinced her to join the East York Kiwanis Club. She was a joy to be around with her positive attitude and sense of humour. Dorothy and I will never forget when we met her & Jack attending the same theatre in Florida. Always a positive attitude and a heart to assist others that not just needed a hand out but a hand up. We were “Blessed beyond all measure” to have known her. Love Chuck & Dorothy McIlravey

Beth and I were next door neighbours in Leaside for 20 years. Fond memories of Mary and Jack and the many Christmas and spontaneous spring and summer get togethers we had with other Donlea Dr. residents.
I will miss the many smile emails Mary sent over the last few years.

My condolences to Mary’s family. Mary was a valued member of the Take Heart Bereavement Group and will be missed by all. She bravely faced the loss of her husband. Her caring for others, especially her family, was such an integral part of her nature. Rest in Peace, Mary.
Dear Mary Kate and Michael.
Mary was a very a special person to me. As new grad at St Mikes, I first met Mary as she was my evening supervisor (many times over two years ) Years later I hired her at St Elizabeth’s and I was her supervisor! We joked about it every year at the St Mike’s nursing school Alumnae luncheon. She was a pleasure to work with and always looked great and was so positive. I will miss our yearly conversations. I’ll keep Mary in my prayers.
My sincerest condolences to you abs your families.
