elevated yamBU Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Lou, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, on February 7, 2025, in Etobicoke, after a courageous three-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 74 years old.
Born in Toronto to Frank and Lena Di Giulio (nee Peruscello), Mary Lou was the epitome of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love. A woman whose life was devoted to caring for others, she had a rare gift of making everyone feel special. Whether it was sourcing the perfect outfit for a special occasion, grabbing a coffee with a friend, or simply lending a hand to someone in need, she was always there for those she loved.
As a dedicated teacher, Mary Lou touched many lives. Her passion for educating and nurturing young students was unwavering. She inspired with her commitment, patience, and care.
Mary Lou had an adventurous spirit and a deep love for travel. She enjoyed exploring new places and creating memories with her family and friends. She viewed it as her mission to test the pizza at every new restaurant. Her journeys brought her joy, and she loved sharing stories from her travels and bringing back special pieces to add to her elegant wardrobe.
elevated yamBU She leaves behind her beloved husband, Julian, her children Adam (Ashley) and Carla (Mark), and her five cherished grandchildren Jack, Grace, Mia, Lena and Michael. Cherished sister to the Late Rocco, John (Dani), Nancy (Late Tony) and Frank (Jennifer), sister-in-law to Mark (Marina) and proud aunt to Anthony, Katelyn (Michael), John Paul (Annie), Michael (Holly), Olivia (Brendan), and Luke (Rachel).
Mary Lou’s family and friends meant everything to her, and she was a constant source of love and support to those fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her boundless generosity, her warm spirit, and her unwavering devotion to her loved ones. She may no longer be with us, but her legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will live on forever in our hearts.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Dorothy Ley Hospice, especially Dr. Marcus Bernardini, Dr. Amit Oza and Dr. Justin Chopra, for the kindness, support and care shown to Mary Lou. Memorial donations in Mary Lou’s honour may be made directly to gynecological research at the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
I had the privilege to see first hand how beautiful Marylou’s soul is. She was an angel on earth and now she is an angel in heaven, watching over her beloved family.
Sending our love and condolences to the entire Di Giulio family

Mary Lou was a very special person. Loving, caring, generous and more interested in giving rather than taking. She represented a balance in this world. A balance in favour of all the good and desirable qualities of humanity.
It was always wonderful being with Mary Lou- as teenagers, we danced in her basement then went to Monte Carlo’s for pizza. We reconnected some years ago, and resumed our friendship. Mary Lou was so kind, generous, wise and fun to be with. My deepest sympathies to Julian, Adam, Carla and your families. She was so proud of you all, and to my old neighbours, the Di Giulios.
We are greatly saddened by the loss of our beloved friend, Mary Lou. She was a great person, a loving and giving soul. She will be missed and remembered, and her legacy lives on. Rest in peace, dear Mary Lou.

Mary Lou will stay in our hearts and warmest thoughts till our last days. Although we have been living quite far from Toronto, we have been always feeling unbelievable closeness with her. It could not be the other way. From the first moments we realized how remarkable and good person she was. Her welcoming smile and open heart at hand, built for decades our strong family relations. And any distance could not limit feeling constantly her good wishes and warm thoughts addressed to us living in Warsaw, Gdynia, Sopot – places in Poland where are the roots of Nawrocki Family. This awareness despite the distance has so nicely always supported us and kept together.
Mary Lou was much loved by our parents – Zosia and Józef and especially by our sister Ela. During her stay in Canada she had sister like relations with Mary Lou. She was all the time supporting Ela with wise advice, cordial care and needed deeds. We are so grateful Mary Lou for this decades long genuine friendship.
Now, in this painful loss we recall Mary Lou and Julian visit to Poland in 2009. It was great reunion of our family with many exited meetings, talks and sightseeing. We were all impressed by Mary Lou interest in history of the country and family and fantastic sense of humor. We gladly found that we all truly like good jokes. We remember well her joyful smiles.
Our next meeting was in Ireland in 2013, on the occasion of Marcin and Caitrin wedding. Mary Lou and Julian’s presence there was a great joy for newlyweds and our whole Polish – Irish Family. Many photos remind us these happy moments.
We are very proud of Mary Lou. Her love, remarkable virtues and devotion have allowed Mary Lou to built with beloved Julian great happy Family. We much admire what she has achieved as wife, mother and grandmother. In all these roles Mary Lou was charming, very brave and stylish person. She has added incredible much good to all our Family. We were very privileged to feel always her interest and friendship. Mary Lou, thank you very much for all of this. Rest In Peace.

It’s so difficult to find the right words when someone you love has passed away. My heart goes out to the Julian, Adam, Carla and family during this difficult time. Every moment I’ve had with Mary Lou showed how truly heartwarming and sweet of a person she was. She would extend her kindness with gestures of assistance and simple conversation where you feel her genuine love. She brought so much joy to everyone around them. Rest in paradise Mary Lou.
Dear Julian, Adam, Carla
I was so sad to hear of Mary Lou’s passing. She was a lady who really left an impact on everyone she touched. I am so grateful for having had Mary Lou in my life over the years – she always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Certainly a life well lived, but all too short. As a teacher she has impacted eternity in the lives of all of the children she taught. As a cousin she warmly touched the lives of me and my family and the memoires will last forever.
Love Doug McCann and Family
