 It is  with heavy hearts and great sadness that we say goodbye to our Father, Matija ( Matt )  Fortun . Matt passed away suddenly at Trillium Health Center on Nov 13, 2020 at the age of 81. 

elevated DfO3W A man, that like many, travelled from Europe in the mid 1960s to build a better life for himself and his family . Matt grew up in a small village (Damelj) in Slovenia, than Yugoslavia . 

elevated DfO3W Born on Jan 11, 1939 in a small farming town to Mother , Kristina (nee Filip) , and Father Matija . Matt only had one sibling , a twin sister named Ancica (Ana) who has passed on over a decade ago . 

elevated DfO3W Beloved husband of Antonina Fortun, who passed away less than 2 months ago on , September 19 , 2020 . Father of Violet Loncar with husband Joe , Danny Fortun and wife Michelle . Cherished grandfather of Alysha, Sarah, Jordan, Katie, Andrew and Ryan 

elevated DfO3W Born in a war time era , the struggle of survival and basic needs was evident . Matt learned old world skills that he displayed through his life as a carpenter, and craftsman . He was a true artist with wood who’s skills were spectacular and are not often replicated . 

elevated DfO3W Matt grew up in an era of hardship where luxuries and soft lifestyles where non existent.  He displayed many of these valuable traits throughout his life and inherently tried to pass them on to us, his children . Living within your means, the value of hard work, and living an honest life was what he displayed day in and day out . He never required fancy amenities and had modesty as a core value.

elevated DfO3W We will always be indebt to you for your commitment and devotion, to us your family. We will remember you always, and continue your legacy . We love you Dad, we will miss you greatly. Thank you for all you have done .
