elevated iGogT Mattia Salerno Di Prima passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on January 21st surrounded by her family, leaving her loving husband, Giacomo after 68 years of marriage.  She was a loving mother to Gioacchino (Lucia) and Rosalia (Benedetto).  Mattia was a devoted nonna of six grandchildren and their spouses: Giacomo, Tania, Stefania, Varun, Alessandro, Emilia, Matteo, Daniela, Andrea, Joseph, Francesca and Michael and a proud bisnonna to Gioacchino, Mattea, Olivia, Massimo and Milena.

elevated iGogT Mattia Salerno was born on August 1, 1932 in Lercara Friddi, Palermo, Italy.

elevated iGogT She met her husband Giacomo when she was 15 years old and they got married on November 29, 1952.  Giacomo immigrated to Canada in 1959 and she joined him years later in 1972. They had four children together, twin boys Giuseppe and Gioacchino who died shortly after birth and son, Gioacchino and daughter, Rosalia. Her famous line was, “como si vista si assumigliata”, meaning the way you present yourself is the way people see you. She always made sure that everyone presented themselves with respect, kindness and clothes that were clean and ironed. She lived by this motto for herself and was always perfectly groomed and presentable on every occasion.

elevated iGogT Mattia was an artist with a gift and passion of sewing. She was a tailor but learned to sew clothing for women and even for our Barbie dolls. Her hands produced works of art. Even in the challenging times with her arthritis, she still pushed herself to work, whether it was for her husband, herself or for her grandchildren. Mattia was hardworking and dedicated to her family. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her. Nonna Mattia always had an open-door policy and would never send us home empty handed. Mattia reunites in heaven with her parents Rosalia and Matteo, twin sons Guiseppe and Gioacchino, sister, Maria and brother, Biagio.
