It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael on December 25, 2022, at the age of 78. Michael was a schoolteacher (retired) with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. He had a deep love of music especially the jazz sounds. His sense of humour brought smiles to many. He lived the last few years at the Apotex Centre – Baycrest. He is survived by his wife, his four children & his four grandkids.

Michael… you once gave me words of wisdom… you said: “the mind is like a parachute…. if you don’t open it, it will not work”.
I had just arrived in Toronto in 1972 and you were mentoring me on the differences I would encounter & experience between 2 cities: Port of Spain vs Toronto. You were encouraging me to embrace change.

Please accept my sincerest condolences. I enjoyed teaching with Michael, laughing in the staff room and the hijinks on the volleyball court. I always remember him as calm, cool, fun loving and easygoing. Praying for Michael, Susan and the whole family. May his soul rest in peace. 🙏🏼
I was a student of Mr. Haynes years ago. He wasn’t just a teacher, but a mentor. He always seemed to know what we needed. He was tough when he needed to be, funny, respectful, and always fair. He taught me more than just things like math and science. He helped teach me how to be a man. I will never forget Mr. Haynes and am blessed for having known him. My condolences to his entire family as they, and we lost a great man.
Len, Chris and I are so saddened to hear of your husband’s passing. Although words will not take away the grief you feel from the loss of your husband Susan, know that we are all thinking of you and sending you healing prayers, peace and comfort. Your extended PB family.
Mr Haynes was my grade 8 teacher. I have nothing but wonderful memories of him. He was a kind, generous, funny teacher that we all remember so dearly. Sending my condolences to his family, may he rest in peace.

If you know you know. This is a song that Mr. Haynes always played for us. Today I listen to this song in honor of him and it brings me back to our classroom in St. Isaac Jogues. He will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thank you for being the BEST teacher and role model we could have ever asked for. I am now in my 40s and I have never forgot your kindness and often speak of you.
Your memory will always live on.

I have so many wonderful memories working with Michael at St. Isaac Jogues. He would always make me laugh with his wonderful sense of humour and witty comments. His caring and kind nature was definiely felt by all who knew him. My deepest condolences to his family.
