elevated 0B0Td Obituary
elevated 0B0Td It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michele D’Amore, at the age 77, on December 29th, 2021, following a long-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
elevated 0B0Td Michele, or better known as Mike by many of his family & friends, was born in Montefalcione, Avellino Italy, July 15, 1944. Like many of his era, he did not have the opportunity for much formal education, but he enjoyed learning new things throughout his life. His early years in Italy were spent on the family farm contributing to the daily tasks needed to survive. He established a strong work ethic during these years & a desire to take care of his family, which carried on throughout his life. When he could sneak away without being noticed or missed by his parents, he would run off with friends to have adventures in the surrounding area or town. Mike learned how to make the best of every situation during these times. He discovered happiness is not always found in having more possessions but in the smiles & laughter that come from the heart.
elevated 0B0Td In December 1959, at the age of 15, Mike arrived in Canada. He lived in a home with 15 other people including family members for a period. He learned how to speak, read & write English while applying himself to several different jobs to earn a living. While still a teenager, he purchased his first home in Toronto, where he lived for many years & raised a family of his own.
elevated 0B0Td Working hard Mike became a successful entrepreneur & businessman, establishing his own painting & wallpaper company. Mike was very generous with his time & skills. He often helped family members & friends to complete projects at their homes or businesses.
elevated 0B0Td Mike became resourceful, independent, courageous, respected, & loved by all whom he came to know. He maintained a youthful approach to life which was shared with everyone. Mike enjoyed the company of children, spending hours with them on extended family picnics playing games along with educating them on the finer points of boccia, Italian cards & how to appreciate the outdoors with very few accessories. Mike took pride in showing them new skills, passing along traditions he learned in his youth in Italy as well as embracing & making new ones in Canada, all the while encouraging family values. Life was not always easy, but Mike developed & maintained a great sense of humor & many good friends along the way. We are better for having him in our lives & he will be missed.
elevated 0B0Td Mike is survived by his wife Nancy, of 51 years, daughters Nadia (Steve) & Lori (Issa), granddaughter Chelsea Nicole, & sister Maria (Raffaele) D’Agostino. He is predeceased by his parents Raffaele D’Amore & Angela (Martignetti).
elevated 0B0Td In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada https://www.parkinson.ca/, in memory of Michele.
