Obituary
Mirko Vukojevic passed peacefully on April 28th at Sunnybrook Hospital in palliative care. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Stana, will be greatly missed by his son and daughter in law Darko(Alison) and his beloved grandsons Yuri (Kristian) and Miro. We were pleased that he got to meet his only great grandson Luka through Facetime a few weeks ago with proud parents Yuri & Kristian. He was pre-deceased by his youngest son George who he cherished very much. Mike was the oldest of eight children and will be lovingly remembered by his surviving sisters, Darenka, Vera, Kata, Dragitsa (Jerry) and Rose (Bob) and his sister-in-law, Teresa (Fred). He was pre-deceased by his two younger brothers Tony and John.
elevated XZJPZ Miroslav was born in Sipovaca, Hercegovina to Nikola & Ana Vukojevic. At the age of 3 they moved to the small town of Babina Greda, Croatia where he apprenticed to be a blacksmith in his young teens. He served in the Croatian army for two years. Mirko had met Stana as teenagers and after the war, they wed in the local church and made a life with their young son Darko. It became obvious with Tito in power that they had to make the great escape in 1961 to Austria, where George was born. Mirko was not afraid of challenges or setting his own standards, he set out with his young family across the ocean to find a better life in Canada.
elevated XZJPZ Through hard work and perseverance, the young couple built a wonderful life with family and close friends for 52 years on Alma Drive. Mike was known as the BBQ master, roasting pigs was his specialty, he loved a good game of bocce, a shot of slivovitz and was proud of his bountiful garden and lush fruit trees. It was a joy to hear him break out in songs from his homeland.
elevated XZJPZ Mike was dedicated to his work at Canada Packers in the machine shop for 32 years. His commitment to hard work was passed on down to his sons and grandsons.
elevated XZJPZ On a trip in 1986 to Florida, Mike & Stella fell in love with the life there, bought a home and enjoyed 20 years of sunny retirement with many Croatian/Canadian friends, old and new. Family was important to Mirko, Sunday dinners with his kids and grandchildren surrounding him made him very happy. He will always be remembered beaming at the head of the table. We will miss you Deda, especially your handsome grin.
elevated XZJPZ The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnybrook for their kindness and care of our Mirko. Burial will be on Monday May 3rd at Assumption Catholic Cemetary, for immediate family only.
