elevated 1PORO Monte Angelo Meldazy passed away peacefully on Monday November 9, 2020 following a valiant fight with cancer. Loving husband of Jillian, Beloved father to Lucas, Sebastian, Maggie and Kieran. Devoted son to Connie and the late Victor Meldazy. Monte will also be sadly missed by his brother Martin, sister-in-law JoAnne and his nieces Erikka (Daniel) and Krista. Monte recently retired as a highly esteemed teacher at Bayview Secondary School where he was a champion of Technological Studies. He was a man of fine tastes with an exquisite eye for detail. Monte’s artistic talent, in the areas of illustration and design, was limitless. He loved researching anything and everything, and nothing made him happier than finding a good bargain. Monte was the kindest of souls and a gentleman through and through. Our hearts will be forever broken but our lives are richer for having loved him.

I had many good times talking with Monte about teaching…..the good and bad. My favourite memory is getting called to the office because of our yearly snowball fight….with our classes…..to clarify, we weren’t students. I was fortunate to know him.
A good listener. He was always there to hear me and give a simple advise after having a meeting at the office. He welcomes me to his office and classroom any time.
My deepest condolences to the Meldazy family. I have many fond childhood memories of growing up on Goulding Avenue a few houses down from the Meldazy boys. Monte will be sadly missed.

Monte was a beautiful person. I was blessed just knowing him. He was the first boy I kissed as a toddler and still have the photo. Great childhood memories. May you all find some comfort that he is once again with his Dad.

I remember Monte as a kind, friendly, helpful and superbly artistic colleague. His talent was matched by his intellect and keen awareness of social issues.
It was always a pleasure to cover a class in his computer lab as he made sure you had everything you needed. Monte you were a credit to our profession and I will always remember your warm beautiful smile. May your love and memories provide strength and comfort to your family.
I’m truly sadened by this news. Monte or as I knew him, as Mr. Meldazy was an amazing teacher, who inspired me to pursue Graphic Design as a career. He brought such a wonderful energy and learning experience to his class, and I always enjoyed learning from him. He truly was a good man, and I am praying for him, and will always remember him. May he rest in peace.

Jan and I were so shocked and saddened to hear of Monte’s passing. For over twenty years, Monte and I shared a cramped office at Bayview with Scott and Joe. We talked about every topic imaginable from all aspects of education to politics, parenting and the environment. I will never forget his impossibly messy desk, his attempts at various pranks mostly involving a supposed call from admin I had missed, and the sound of him teaching in Room 75; he had so much fun with the students. It was rare that he would let me enter or exit the office without involving me in the lesson. I will miss his endearing smile, his love of laughter and his generosity. May his memory be a blessing.
Sending my heartfelt condolences to all of Monte’s loved ones. Our thoughts are with you.
Michelle Richardson and children.
Jill,
I am so sad to hear of Monte’s passing. He was such a kind and generous man. He always had time to talk in the halls, and remind me that things were never as had as they seemed.
My heart goes out to you and your family.
Monte was truly a gifted man.
Our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family.
Rest In Peace Monte. You’ll be dearly missed, but your memory will live forever.
Love from Jim Richardson, Linda and Rose.
I am so saddened by this news and send my deepest condolences for your loss. His dry wit and smile on his face is something I will always recall fondly. May his memory be eternal.
Dear Jill,
We feel fortunate to have had our families cross paths when our kids were younger. Monte was always kind and generous. One memory that stands out is how happy he was to be with his family at the cottage.
Your family is in our prayers.
The Matys Family
So sad to hear of his passing. Monte was my first associate teacher in teacher’s college. He was my first impression of what it meant to be a classroom teacher – and what an impression it was. He taught me so much in those early days and our paths crossed again in later years with him as my instructor of a specialist course. He had a unique charm about him in and out of the classroom. I considered him a mentor and the ultimate example of what a teacher should be. I admired him greatly. I’ll never forget how kind he was to me and to those around him. He was one of a kind.
My condolences to all his friends and family.
Our Monte was a gentlemen – so rare these days. We will miss his smile and his gentle demeanour. No one could have fought harder than you. Monte, we’ve got Jillian, Maggie and Kieran’. We will love them with all our hearts. Rest well. You gave it your all. We will miss you so much. You are loved.
My father and I send out deepest condolences to Connie and the Meldazy family. We are so sorry for your loss. Your whole family has been a big part of Aurelio’s life for many happy years and he remembers Monte with great fondness. Our thoughts are with you.
Dear Jill and family,
We were so saddened to hear about Monte passing. He was such a great colleague and such an amazing teacher. His smile and calm presence have been so missed at Bayview. His guidance and mentoring completely helped Aidan to choose his post-secondary path. We will be forever grateful for his impact on Aidan.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at such a difficult time.
Monte I’m so sad to hear of your passing, my heart bleeds with sorrow and I’ll never forget growing up with you and the fun we had, your family grew on all us, your mom and dad and Marty. Rest In Peace Monte until we meet again and I’m sure we will. You’ll never be forgotten by anyone.
Jill and family,
I can’t tell you how saddened Gisa and I are by Monte’s passing. As you know, for over 20 years, I started and ended each day my Monte’s side. Every morning, Monte greeted me with a jovial,”Giuseppe”, a greeting I looked forward to and have missed since his deserved retirement.
Our long chats in that tiny office were always great. I loved hearing stories about his time in Stratford, the antics he and his brother were up to as kids, and what Bayview was like before I started teaching there. I learned a lot from Monte over the years. The most valuable of lessons was to relax. Monte was such a laid back teacher and knew how to balance the delivery of academics with high standards and the value of building trusting relationships with students.
Monte helped shape Bayview, and those of us who were fortunate to work closely with him. He is missed.
Dear Jill and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you, and may God’s love bring you the strength to see you through this most difficult time. My memories of Monte will always remain in my heart as he was a wonderful, kind and gentle soul. The ceremony today was beautiful and yes as Monte is with God he will always be in my heart and in the hearts of the so many fortunate people he was able to touch in such a profound way. May God bless Monte, and may He hold you and your family in his loving arms. Love, Anthony and Olimpia DiMonte and family.
I started working with Monte, in the tech department, at Bayview, in the mid 90’s. I immediately respected his knowledge and attention to detail in his design work and teaching. I would often use the knowledge I learned from him in my teaching career. I moved to another school but we would meet up several times a year at meetings. We shared stories about our kids. He was always ready to tell me what they were up to and where they were at. It was great to chat with Monte as the conversations were always lighthearted and positive.
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Monte’s passing.
Praying for God’s peace to rest on the Meldazy family.
Monte I’m devastated by your passing my heart bleeds for you and your family.I’ll never forget you my friend. I think back to all the fun times we had as kid’s growing up on Goulding Ave. You and your brother Marty were like brothers to us all. Your mom and dad were amazing! Monte was a kind person he was always smiling! I don’t recall any time that he didn’t smile! I remember the day when you fell from our tree fort in Mike Sanders back yard I feared the worse but your brother Marty was the one that broke your fall you landed right on top of him. You’ll never be forgotten by anyone Monte May in Rest In Peace until we meet again I know we will! From me and my wife Susan and Andrew & Danielle
Dear Jill,
I am so sad that you have lost Monte – one of the good ones! I will always remember his warm smile and genuine good will for everyone. I am also very sad that you and your children have to travel the road that I have so recently travelled. Know that you have many friends who want to support you. Know also that you are a strong woman who can cope with the “slings and arrows” of this outrageous life. Thinking of you with love and empathy. Sheila Chilvers
What a shock! Monty was a great guy, always up to something fun, always there when you needed him. But I took early retirement and Monty started a new life and family, so we drifted apart. I have no idea where the time went, so this was a real wake up call. Wish we had been closer, wish I had talked to him recently, wish he hadn’t retired to this illness. So many regrets!
To our dear friends, Marty & Jo-Anne, and the entire Meldazy family, we are truly sorry for your loss, and extend our deepest sympathies. And to Connie, a heartfelt hug for the incredible pain losing a son brings you. May you find comfort in knowing what a profound impact Monte left on the lives of so many.
Dear Jill and family,
I am shocked and saddened to hear of Monte’s passing. He was always such a calm and wise voice at Bayview and was justifiably well-loved by students and staff alike.
May he rest in peace and may you know that you have the support, thoughts and prayers of many friends as you forge a path ahead in the days to come.
I am saddened to hear the passing of my friend since our elementary school days. My deepest condolences to all his family, my thoughts and prayers are with them. We will all miss you Marty.
Dear Jill,
I was so saddened to hear about Monte. I remember him as such a fun-loving, carefree guy who liked to make everyone laugh. He was always so polite and considerate – always ready to help people, always with that special smile on his face. I so enjoyed teaching with him and you at B.S.S. Someone once told me 19 years ago that you never get over this, but you do get through it.
Thinking about you and your family, Jill, and sending love.
Dear Jillian- My heart
goes out to you and your family at this sad time. I can still see Monte calmly …( I always admired that
“ calm” vibe) ..walking
into the harried art wing
to teach his couple of art classes – with a smile
on his face and his students always happy to see him. It was fun to
shoot the breeze with him and easy to exchange materials/lessons. Monte will be greatly
missed by his Bayview family, friends and so
many others. I hope the
happy memories of your shared life together help to see you through any difficult days ahead. Thinking of you.
Chris
Truly sad to hear about Monte – I treasure the memories of him during our school days, and beyond that. He was so artistic – always creating something. He had a smile for everyone.
I hope that a lot of these warm comments, friends, and family, help you through this incredibly difficult time. It’s a terrible loss.
Just remember that Monte is thought of with love, by all who knew him well.
My thoughts go out to Monty and family. Grew up living down the street with his family. My parents are gone but remember them all being together. I will keep you in my prayers. Dario Matrundola
Months have passed since Monte’s death, but this morning I thought of him again as I was planning my class for OISE. Some of us never really retire. Monte had also taught AQ courses at OISE, but what we shared most was laughter, or knowing smiles at Heads Meetings, about the inane administration we worked under for a comedic period I can best describe as the MASH Unit years. Thank heavens for the Klingers and Hawkeyes! Not only would Monte lend an ear when I needed to vent (usually with Paul, Joe and Scott there too), but he often helped me with technical matters and also with promotional literature and buttons for Gerry Harrison’s two provincial campaigns for OSSTF executive. Monte’s design skills were amazing! I remember covering for his classes for on-calls, and always appreciated that post as his students knew what they were doing and enjoyed their work. Fondly remembered, I can still picture Monte pulling out of the parking lot in his cool Porsche. Karen and I wish Jill and her family the best through this difficult time.
Being a few months late in receiving this news, and I feel very blindsided. It was only a few semesters ago when I would walk into the large Comtech classroom to find him with his strong cologne with a cheeky grin slightly concealed by his Macbook Pro. Not only were his classes enjoyable, but Mr. Meldazy taught many lessons applicable beyond the classroom. Comtech and Cartoon & Animation was always a class I could look forward to during the day to have fun and de-stress. Mr. Meldazy will be missed. I wish his family the best moving forward.
Definitely one of the most positively remembered aspects of my time at Bayview Secondary School. I was part of his very first “Communications Technology” class.
He’s come to mind a number of times since then, and it wasn’t till my wife found the notice online that I’d learned of his passing last year. I was stunned and still am deeply saddened.
From that incredible grin, his voice, his charisma…the man was a gift to all who knew him.
He will be sorely missed, condolences to his family and close friends.
I stumbled across this as I was reminiscing about high school days and was wondering which teachers were still at Bayview. I am heartbroken at the news of Mr. Meldazy’s passing. He was one of the most influential teachers I had, and one of the reasons I am in the design field today. Like so many here have noted, his fun-loving nature, warm smile, and kindness quickly disarmed the cockiest teens while putting at easy the awkward kids that never fit in. His class was a safe space for everyone, and I have no doubt that the impact he left on his students go far beyond the classroom. He truly embodied what a good teacher ought to be, and I feel very privileged to have been been his student.
Sending my sincerely condolences to the Meldazy family. Thank you for sharing Mr. Meldazy with us. May he rest in peace.
