Peacefully on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at Humber River Hospital in his 84th year. Loving husband of the late Luzviminda Mordido Figuracion. Beloved father to Katherine, Ruby, and Erminn. Cherished Lolo to Maegan, Alexa, Kevin, and Rachel.
As one of 13 children, he was an incredibly strong, independent dreamer. Born just before WWII, he grew to have strength of character, great cognitive function, and an excellent memory that never failed him. At the age of 37, he came from the Philippines to Canada and made it his proud home for the last 47 years. He was sponsored through Mercedes Benz of Canada, which supported his move, along with his pregnant wife and 3 children. His fourth child and only son, Erminn was born within a month of arriving. Ernesto was a very committed and dedicated family man. His friends know him for his jovial and gregarious character. His main self-indulgence was when he purchased his first car, a red Plymouth Duster. He, the children, and some friends piled in it to go for a celebratory treat at McDonald’s (which opened recently nearby). His passion for driving led to many family road trips including a long haul to Florida.
Thank you to the team at Humber River Hospital for the loving care you provided him and the thoughtfulness you showed us.

condolences to Erminn, cathy and ruby my heatfell sympathies to your family and may he rest in peace
I first met Erning in early 1976 when his family moved into the same apartment building where we lived – 32 St. Denis Dr. (Don MIlls and Eglinton). It was an old building, a bit run down, paints cracking, hot in summer and cold in winter. But the rent was cheap. The place has a distinctive smell. The smell of new immigrants. I’m not putting down new immigrants. I was one of them.
With the Figuracions, there were 4 Filipino new immigrant families at 32 St. Dennis Dr. The Abogados with 6 children, the Gamanas with 5, the Figuracions with 4, and the Frondozos with 2. We became close. We all had a difficult start in Canada. Despite the hardships and challenges, I am proud to say that these 4 families produced a lawyer, an engineer, medical professionals, teachers, IT professionals, and entrepreneurs, all successful and productive members of Canadian society.
We all had a difficult start but Erning & Minda’s was exceptionally hard. They came to Canada with 3 young children and Minda in her full term of pregnancy, with no family or friends to meet them, at the onset of Canadian winter, with only $200. That was a daring and reckless move. And that is Ernesto – bold, daring, fearless and confident. He understands the risks but he is confident in
his abilities. And he proves himself time and again.
The goal of Erning and Minda for coming to Canada is to give their family a better life. They have succeeded.
Rest in peace Pareng Erning, Maring Minda!
So sweet ❤
