elevated dMaKx It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Heffernan at Michael Garron Hospital on September 20, 2022 at the age of 97. James passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was the youngest and last surviving member of 10 siblings. He is survived by the love of his life, Frances, (nee Hayes), his wife of 73 years. Jim will be fondly remembered by their children Larry (Louise), Mike (Anita), Rick (Helena), Joan, and Linda (Kelly), as well as grandchildren Noel, Danielle (James), Peter, Kevin (Nicole), David (Nadia), and great-grandchild Mathew. Fiercely independent, James lived at home with Frances until the last two days of his life. James enlisted in the Airforce during WWII, later transferring to the regular army where he was in boot camp at the end of the war. Following the war, Jim gave decades of loyal service to the Toronto Transit Commission and upon retiring, he and Frances enjoyed travelling throughout North America as well as spending quality time with their children at the family cottage. The visitation, funeral mass, and reception will all take place at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home on Monday, September 26, (entrance at 211 Langstaff Road East). Visitation will begin at 10 am. The funeral mass will begin at Noon. Following the funeral mass, the final committal service will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (8361 Yonge Street) after which the reception will begin
I will miss you Grandpa & will always remember being so extremely interested in listening you talking about trollies & “GO Trains,” which inspired my hobby of miniature train sets. I’ll remember always going to the cottage, going to Scarborough to be able to go & visit with you during the summers & catching up with the rest of the Heffernan family while visiting down south.
My condolences to the Heffernan family. Many fond memories of living with our backyards joined until 2000 when my Mom sold the family home. Mr Heffernan was a great gardener. He shared his bounty especially the raspberries. May God provide comfort at this time.
I was so sad to hear that my dear friend Jim passed away. I fondly remember him as always with a smile and ready to give a helping hand. Jim was the one who invited me to join him as an usher and also as a member of the Seniors Club at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine. We were with the carpet bowling group for many, many years. Jim was an expert as a bowler Taught me everything to know about the game. He was so good at it that he beats me at the game just using his left hand, maybe even with his eyes closed ! I have so many fond memories of him and he will be greatly missed. JIM you had a great life, now rest in PEACE…..

I met Jim in January 2009 at Our Lady Of Fatima Church Hall, where a Senior’s Club was held every Thursday afternoon. I joined the Carpet Bowling group where I met Jim and Frances.They had been carpet bowling for many years at the local Community Centre and the Church Senior’s group. Jim was an excellent bowler, he had unlimited patience with newcomers’ to carpet bowling, showing them how to hold the ball correctly, where to stand etc. He was always cheerful and he made the Thursday afternoon carpet bowling an interesting an enjoyable place to spend a couple of hours.
Jim was very interested in gardening and plants, several years back, he brought me a clipping of a Shamrock plant, I still have this plant, which is doing very well now, although it has had set backs. I will always remember Jim and his thoughtfullness when I care for the Shamrock plant.
Jim was a kind, giving and peaceful man. One of the Best.
