elevated hNucS Obituary

elevated hNucS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nicola on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the age of 87. Loving husband of Assunta.  Cherished father of Victoria McGowan (the late Michael), Teresa Tommasone, Tony Pileggi (Paola) and Robert Pileggi (Vittoria).  Beloved Nonno of James (Amanda), Nicole (Alan), Michelle (Greg), Vincent, Nicholas (Yolanda), Susanne (Giancarlo), Anthony (Gabrielle), Martina and Nicolai.  Proud Bis Nonno to Evelyn, Oliver, Charlotte, Cole, Rhett, Lucas, Valentina and Giulia. Predeceased by his parents Antonio and Vittoria, his brother Raffaele (Caterina).  Nicola will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. A special thank you to all the staff of Sunrise of Unionville, and all the health care professionals who looked after our father.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in honour of Nicola.

elevated hNucS Born in San Nicola Da Crissa, Vibo Valentia, Italy, Nicola came to Canada in 1955 at the age of 24 with his wife, Assunta. They settled in Windsor, Ontario where Nicola was a janitor with the University of Windsor. Unable to get work in his profession as an automotive mechanic, Nick uprooted his young family and moved to Toronto in 1961. He started his own business and ran a successful service station for over 20 years. He was proud of his family and was never too tired to brag about his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his vegetable garden, watching the Formula 1 races, soccer, hockey, playing his guitar and harmonica.Thank you to Dr. Masellis for the great care and friendship shown to Nick as his family physician for many years. Thank you to the staff at Sunrise of Unionville for the great care shown to Nick. Thank you to the paramedics and health care team at Markham Stouffville Hospital for the care, compassion and support shown to our father and family members.
