elevated 1ensN It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Nilawaty (Nila) Poerba on Friday August 16 at the age of 53. She was a devoted daughter to Clara and Ridwan Poerba, beautiful sister to Natalie Poerba, granddaughter, niece, cousin, Tia, godmother and Friend. She loved wholeheartedly and to her family she was their everything.
elevated 1ensN Nila loved crafting, shopping, winning at board games and travelling (especially ship cruises). She always made the little ones in her life feel special and loved by bringing their celebration themes to life with “over the top” cakes, matching outfits for everyone and party favours. Nila valued her relationships with friends who quickly became family. We will miss her talks, smile, laughter, sense of humour and of course her storytelling.
elevated 1ensN Nila took great pride in her vocation as a teacher with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, most recently at St. Bonaventure and St. Marguerite Bourgeoys. She touched the lives of all her students by inspiring them to achieve their true potential and to always reach for the stars.
elevated 1ensN We are blessed to have spent the last 53 amazing years with Nila here on earth, she will be dearly missed. We are thankful for the wonderful memories of how much you loved us. May God bless you now in heaven. Rest in peace Nila.
elevated 1ensN In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John of the Cross Parish in Mississauga in memory of Nilawaty Poerba.

They were great friends and Jocelyn will greatly miss her
May she RIP
She was such an amazing teacher and role model for our children.
Everyone wanted her as their teacher.
She focused on academics but also on confidence and teaching children to love themselves and have fun in life.
She was a great communicator and always had a smile on her face.
Our condolences to the family and may God bless her soul

Dear Natalie,

My Dear NIla,
The first time we met, it was 1999 and I was a newbie at Bourgeoys. You were introduced to me as Miss Poęrba Grade 6 as you were well known and loved.I knew you then as a boisterous and fun loving teacher down the hall who had a passion for teaching. A few years later, we became teaching partners and wow… what a ride that was! The jokes and the laughter and the solving “mysteries” that faced us made memories for me that I will not soon forget.
When we parted ways in 2007, you to open up Saint Bonaventure, and I to fly across the ocean to explore Europe, I truly felt a sense of loss. The camaraderie, the amazing partnership, the creativity and the friendship we had was etched into my heart. I was so grateful that our friendship continued despite us not working in the same school. Over the years, continuous texts, spontaneous selfies when our paths crossed at in-services or events, birthday messages, photos sent and imessaging advice on bulletin boards during classroom set up, retelling funny memories and long phone calls lamenting over class placements and the impacts of trades on our beloved Raptors were just some of the beautiful hallmarks of our friendship.
And laughter. There was always laughter.
I still remember busting a gut laughing in the lobby of Saint Anthony church while Confirmation registration was going on one year. We were trying so hard not to get in trouble for creating a spectacle of ourselves that our faces were beet red. Then there was always the ~look~ that would send us into bales of giggles when we were supposed to be completely under control. The retelling of stories and the things we got ourselves into… Oh Nila, how I wish I could recount a story with you again.
How I wish I could hear your laugh and see your smile.
Nila,we all witnessed something so beautiful within you. You touched every single person you came into contact with. It was your unbridled desire to give of yourself to others. Whether it was in the classroom with your students, helping colleagues or being an incredible friend to so many, you brought all of us tremendous joy. Your passion for teaching and for creating beauty around you that will stay with me forever. Your friendship has touched my life in such an indescribable way. No matter how many words I write, it cannot capture who you were and your impact on everyone who knew you.
I cannot imagine this world without you in it.
Rest in peace my Dear Friend. Until we meet again.
Natalie and Mrs. Poerba, my deepest sympathies on your tremendous loss. You are in my heart and prayers. God bless your family and keep you in His loving embrace, especially now.
Nila. I don’t think anyone who knew and loved you were ready to say goodbye.
I am so grateful to have so many memories of times spent with you. I will never forget the Sonic birthday cake – an epic example of your thoughtfulness and care for those who you loved.
God speed my friend. We will never not miss you.
Dear Natalie,
I am so truly sorry for your loss. She was such an amazing human. Kind, funny, and supportive. I had Nila and you as teachers and you both made such an impact on my life. You both were the reason I became a teacher. She was such a wonderful person and an amazing educator! She will be truly missed.
I am so very heartbroken to see this. So very sad. I cannot say how much love and sunshine she brought to my life. She made me really happy at times I thought I never could be. I will hold a special spot for Nila in my heart always.
My deepest condolences,
Bernadette

Dear Natalie,
I am so sorry for your loss. Nila is such an amazing person and her light shines on in all of our hearts. She will be missed. May she rest in peace and my prayers are with you and your family.
To Ms. Poerba and family, my condolences to Nila and her loved ones, I knew her as Ms. Poerba my 8th grade teacher and one of the best teachers I have had in my life. She taught me so much more than just the curriculum at school and was truly an amazing person to be around. God bless you and your family in these difficult times.
Dear Natalie and family,
I’ve been thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. Although I only got to meet Nila a few times over the years she always had a bright smile and some witty words to bring laughs to those around her. Your bond as sisters was very evident, strong and something to be admired by many. I hope the many fond memories shared and kind words from those who were lucky enough to meet Nila can provide some small measure of comfort on the road to healing. Xx
Dear Clara, Ridwan and Natalie,
I am so sorry to hear this heartbreaking news. God was calling Nila back too early for us but rest assured she is busy already reaching out to the children in heaven. Her beauty and vibrant personality is such an inspiration and rest assured Mother Mary will put her mantle around her. Nila’s spirit will be there for every milestone that you celebrate. May God bless all of you abundantly, now and in the days ahead.
Much love to you all, Cathy Kavanaugh
My sincere condolences. Nila was truly a wonderful person. I was so fortunate that she taught me when I was in Grade 6 and shared her love of teaching with us! Her passion and drive, connections with students and her dedication was so evident in her career. Sending prayers and strength.
Natalie and Mrs. Poerba, I am so sorry to hear this sad news of Nila. She is remembered so fondly for having an incredible spirit and thoughtful heart toward everyone she met. She intuitively put people at ease and was quick to make friends.
Natalie and Mrs Poerba, your whole family left a lasting impression on me that still inspires me and makes me smile to remember. Nila was the embodiment of all of you and she will be missed. My sincerest condolences to your whole family.

Natalie and family,
My deepest condolences to your family. I was lucky enough to have Nila as a teacher at SMB. To this day (21 years later!) not a day goes by I don’t think of those days and how she truly was the most wonderful teacher and person I’ve met.
Nila impacted so many of our lives, without even knowing it. The days were always full of laughter and her smile lit up the classroom.
Nila, you will be missed by many and we were all blessed to have you a part of our lives.
