elevated PlcEB Obituary

elevated PlcEB It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Paulina Gouveia on July 17, 2019. Our beautiful, strong, and devoted mother died peacefully, with her loving family by her side, at Toronto Western Hospital, in her 89th year. Growing up as a young girl on the farms of Sao Miguel, Azores, she learned about the importance of family and faith, and without question, she loved her family, God and Our Blessed Mother Mary passionately. Born to Carolina Da Silva Lopes and Jose Tavares Brum, she was a devout daughter and dear sister to all her siblings. Paulina would go on to have a home full of her own children, five daughters and six sons: Filomena (Octavio – deceased), Luciano (Filomena), Maria Paulina, Jose Martins, Rosa (Carlos), Alda (Mauro), Fernando (Josie), Paul (Lina), Eduardo (Nancy), Carlos (Paula), and Lidia (Michael), who would honor her with the greatest gift – her adoring 29 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. In June 1975 she courageously immigrated to Canada with nine of her children and dreams of a better life. As a proud mother in Toronto, single-handedly caring for and protecting her children as her highest priority. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening and was serene in her faith. We would like to acknowledge the medical staff and volunteers of Castleview Wychwood Towers for their care and companionship for our mother over the past decade. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memory of our mother to either The Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada. Through her incredible passion and heart she empowered us with the knowledge, confidence, and love that will be passed on as part of her legacy to all future generations. We will cherish the memories of our mother until we see her again in heaven.
