elevated z884j Obituary

elevated z884j It is with broken hearts that we returned the soul of our beloved Phyllis May Lyn to her Lord on August 21, 2023.  She was the centrepiece of a family who adored her and leaves behind, as her legacy, three generations bound together by her love and guidance.

elevated z884j Phyllis was born on April 4, 1923 in Trelawny, Jamaica and was the second of ten children.  In Jamaica, she met her husband of thirty-nine years, Henry Lyn.  She had a hard-working and entrepreneurial spirit and for many years, operated successful businesses as both a shop-keeper and seamstress.

elevated z884j Phyllis was the cherished mother of six children who will forever hold her dear in their hearts, Trevor (Laurinda), Shirley, Jeanne (William), Dave (Alison), Patrick (Suzan), Annette (Mike) and Lori Ann. She raised her children with a strong hand but with the warmest of hearts. As adults, she continued to nourish them all with her loving support and words of wisdom.

elevated z884j As a cherished Grandma and Japo, she was a focal point in the lives of all of her grandchildren, Michael (Nicole), Jodi (Marcus), Gina (Andrew), Elizabeth (Duane), Nicole (Aleksandar), Matthew (Jodi), Justin (Nicole), Johanna, Sarah and Jennifer (Wesley). She touched the lives of all of her grandchildren who had the privilege of sharing so many treasured laughs and hugs with her.

elevated z884j For her “Great-Grans” she always had a warm lap and a sweet smile, Alexandra, Dylan, Charlotte, Isabella, Zander, Keil, Jai, Lucas, Benjamin and one great-grandson on the way, “Simon.”

elevated z884j Her quiet and reserved nature was equally balanced by her vibrant personality and love of games. She was a worthy opponent in all of her favourite games and could best any generation in cards, dominoes and, of course, her absolute mastery in Scrabble. She loved to travel and with her children and grandchildren, was able to explore many foreign lands. Our dearest Phylbert had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh – over the years, her foibles blessed us with many hilarious moments and memories that we will treasure always.

elevated z884j We had the great privilege of celebrating her milestone 100th birthday in April of this year. This was a gathering full of pure joy and love and we are so blessed to have shared this precious time with her.

elevated z884j In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Scarborough Grace Hospital at shnfoundation.ca or to Missionaries of the Poor at P.O. Box 20070 Southbrook, Maple, ON L6A 4K0.
