We love you mum, hold on there until we meet again.
It feels surreal that I am drafting a farewell message to one of my best friends, mentors and confidants in this lifetime – Nana.
I think my favourite times with Nana were sleepovers. As a child, unrestricted sweets and snacks followed by snuggling close in her bed after watching movies that were a bit too scary was nirvana. As an adult, Hakka takeout, shandys and popcorn while watching ghost stories and horror movies (that were still a bit too scary) followed by laying in twin beds side by side and chatting about everything and nothing until dawn or until someone started snoring was heaven.
My second favourite pastime with Nana was walking in the park. This activity started out when I was a child with her as caregiver. But, as time went on, we switched roles. Eventually, I pushed her in a wheelchair to perfect spots where we could observe life and chat about everything and nothing from the sidelines.
A piece of my heart died the day Nana was called to heaven.
Nana, I will never forget you. The memories you have given me and the lessons you taught, l will cherish forever.
RIP
Rest in peace Mum. You were the best mum ever, kind, loving, hardworking, caring and looked after us so well. Such a pity you could not make your hundred years but you bore your adversities with great fortitude and patience. Also to thank Michael and Colleen for all their loving care.
Rest in peace loving mum you are in our prayers
Rest in peace, Phyllis. May your legacy live on and your 98 years be filled with love and cherished memories. I will never forget dear Aunty Phyllis who looked after me like a son in Calcutta. Thank you for all the beautiful memories. Condolences to the family
A Poem for Nana
God looked around his garden
And found an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest
God’s garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So he closed your weary eyelids
And said “Peace be thine”
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home
(on December 30, 2025 at 10:08 a.m.)
In loving memory of a wonderful mother
Of all the special gifts in life both great and small
Having you as a mum was the greatest gift of all
Though there’ll be no more tomorrows with you now
All the yesterdays we shared will comfort us somehow
A silent prayer, a secret tear, will keep your memory ever near
We’ll remember you always and hold you close in our heart
Until we meet again in heaven, never more to part
RIP xoxoxo
