elevated Xa7YC Pierre Maurice Bocti of Markham died peacefully on January I4th , surrounded by his family and close friends. Pierre was born in Heliopolis, Egypt in I945 to Marie Antoinette and Maurice Bocti. He loved his brothers Henri, deceased, and Aziz, of Montreal. He was educated by the Christian Brothers among lifelong friends including Paul, Tony, Albert and Elie. He arrived in Montreal in 1965 with $40, and graduated in Hautes Etudes de Commerce, Universite de Montreal. His was a big personality, witty and welcoming, with a big heart to go with it.
elevated Xa7YC Pierre had a distinguished career in accounting and tax at Ultramar and then at Hewlett Packard Canada where he became V.P., Tax. He lectured and served as Advisor to CCRA on multiple issues. As a longtime member of the Tax Executives Institute he was given the President’s Award in 2013 for his leadership and many contributions. He was invited to the CGA Board of Directors where he encouraged the CPA/CGA merger, then served on the new board. In recent years he was Chairman of the Board of AG Energy Cooperative. A Liberal, Pierre acted as Riding President and Agent for several prominent campaign officials. A soccer fan, he served Markham Soccer Club as Treasurer and coach and was an initial inductee into the Markham Soccer Hall of Fame. His team was Liverpool and his cheer could be heard next door when they scored a goal. In 2001 Pierre became a Knight of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Malta) where he enjoyed the company of his Brother Knights while raising funds and helping those in need. St. Justin Martyr R. C. Church was his spiritual home. In each of his endeavors he had fun, made a positive difference and made lasting friends in abundance. The Queen recognized Pierre twice, awarding him with the Diamond and Platinum Jubilee Medals. Pierre will be missed more than words can say by his loving family, wife Wendy and children, John and Jennifer.

Very sad news and my condolences to the family and to his many, many friends. Pierre was a giant in the Tax world and at the Toronto Chapter of TEI. He was well respected for his knowledge and his kindness and was a mentor to many of us who try to continue his work of service to the tax community. We will miss you Pierre.

Dear Pierre and Family, Pierre, it was such an honor and privledge to know you, as we worked together for many, many years. The many trips i took up there to help out on audits ( somehow you only invited me in the middle of the Canadian winters though …). The good restaurants you showed me, and just the fun times we had working …..us against the govt. Really, really fond ( and cold ) memories. And I still maintain good friendships with some of your former staff members.
But what really brought us together was our commoradarie between your ( Laughs as you called them ) and my Penguins. I will forever cherish our barbs back and forth. You can show my Penguins how it’s played up there in Heaven. I will miss you my friend.
To Pierre’s family, though i never met you, he always spoke greatly of you, and you were very blessed to have had him as a husband and father. My thoughts and prayers are with you. He will be missed………..

One of the nicest and most fun guys I ever met. Just like a brother since we first met in 1980. We will really miss him big-time but have an amazing array of lifetime good memories.

As has been noted, Pierre was a leading figure in the Canadian tax community. He was a mentor to many through TEI and other tax Groups he belonged to or founded, including the TCTSG and SOCTCG, but also a Gentleman in the true sense of the word. He was not only a dear friend to me but also many others due to his natural inclusiveness. Most importantly, he was good father and family man. He was so proud of his family and their accomplishments . I had the pleasure of serving on a corporate Board with Pierre where he was the Chair and he excelled in that role due to his people skills that served him so well in his long and distinguished career as a Tax Director. While his retirement years were not long, he enjoyed them with his family and friends and in improving his golf game. I could tell from recent visits he was ready to go. Rest in peace my friend. Brother Pierre, your kindness and generosity was exemplary. You were always in front of the line to volunteer on any project to help those who needed it as a Knight of Malta. You will be dearly missed. May the good Lord reward you and may you rest in peace. Your brother Joe.

Pierre had the largest heart and the biggest laugh of anyone I knew. He was caring, generous and kind. A giant in the tax field. Everyone who worked with him respected is tax genius and valued his professionalism. His advice on numerous issues was invaluable to me and others.
So very sad to hear this very sad news and sending prayers to the family for peace and strength to get through this next very challenging chapter.

So sorry to hear this. My sincere condolences to the family and the many other persons with whom he made deep personal connections. I first met Pierre through TEI in the early 80s, then we became members of the TCTSG, CTIG and the TEI commodity tax specialist groups. Lots of advice shared and great memories of the TEI Ottawa conferences. We both made it through the introduction of GST. Pierre will be missed by all.

Wendy – It is with great sadness that we write to offer condolences to you, John, and Jennifer on Pierre’s passing. What a presence he was, and what a void he leaves. Pierre was a person of great intellect, character, and passion … for life, for tax (it’s true), and for his faith and family. Even if he had not a single drop of French (or French-Canadian) blood, he would have epitomized the expression joie de vivre. He was not shy, he was not quiet, and he was understandably proud of his accomplishments. Pierre was, undeniably, an acquired taste. But, my, once you acquired a taste for his friendship and his company (say, while traipsing around Ottawa or Washington), how loyal he was and how enriched you were! His contributions to his profession, his community, and his country are great and lasting. All that said, we will remember him most for laughter, goodwill, and his devotion to you, John, and Jennifer. May his memory be a blessing.
I like to think of Pierre as a gust of fresh air. A breath just doesn’t due him justice. His presence was outsized, whether in terms of his physical presence, or the warmth he exuded in every aspect of his personal and professional life. When a larger than life person dies, he leaves a larger than usual hole. Happily, he also leaves larger than life memories in those of us so very fortunate to have been his colleague and friend.
I have known Pierre for many years when we both worked at Hewlett Packard Canada. Pierre was always a consummate professional who helped me personally in so many ways.
He was very pleasant and went out of his way to help.

Pierre is gone but his memories will last forever. He was my classmate where we attended school in Cairo and although we lost contact after we both left Egypt in 1965 we were happily reunited in Toronto in 2000 and had great time together especially over his favourite Middle East food ( falafel, shawarma etc)
Pierre was a brother a friend and we will miss him dearly.

I have just received this sad news and with the benefit of reading the previous comments can only repeat all the wonderful accolades and regret that I did not know his none tax life better….who knew he was a Liverpool FC fan for example.
I got to know him when the family arrived in Toronto and can readily attest to his TEI and CRA successes, professionalism and popularity with all from that very first meeting.

Oh my goodness. I am heartbroken to only learn of Pierre’s passing today. This explains why I have not received a message back from you.
We served on the CGA Ontario board together as colleagues. I had a great deal of respect for Pierre for his knowledge and demeanour at the board table.
I will miss your messages of humour you often sent to me but most of all your friendship.
