It is with profound Sadness that we announce the passing of Ray Charles McEwen, who passed away September 8, 2026, at the age of 93.

elevated c8bo9 Ray was born in Sherbrooke, Prince Edward Island on March 20, 1933. Ray came to Ontario as a young 17 year old, and started his journey working hard to build a life he dreamed of. Ray married the love of his life Iris and together they built a life full of love and memories.

elevated c8bo9 Ray is predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 72 years. Ray was a loving and devoted father to Jeanine Hanlon (predeceased by her husband, Fon Hanlon), Marilyn Valente (Mario Valente), and Barry McEwen (Alyson McEwen).

He was a cherished grandfather to Dawn Fay (William Fay), Lisa Hanlon (Yvonne Wells), Patrick Hanlon (Shelley Hillman), Ryan Valente (Grace Valente), Amber Martin (Jeff Martin), and Brandon Valente (Michelle Valente).

He was also a proud and a loving great-grandfather to Grace Fay, Kayla Valente, Jackson Martin, Lily Martin, Camden Martin, Ace Valente, Mackenzie Valente, Brooklyn Valente, and Kingsley Valente.

Providing for his family was at the heart of everything he did. Ray was a selfless man, he cared about what his family needed more than any needs he may have had. Ray was a kind gentleman always ready to help others, driving mom‘s friend to church, to bowling, to the mall, he never hesitated. He had a few passions; truck driving for over 50 years and loving every minute. He drove Ford cars, nothing ever parked in his driveway but a Ford, and of course The Toronto Maple Leafs. He never gave up on a Stanley Cup.

If you look up gentlemen in the dictionary, our father’s picture would be there through the past few years as he lived with dementia, he was still a gentleman. Always a please and thank you and a smile.

elevated c8bo9 Although our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the long and beautiful life he lived, and the many memories we are blessed to share.

elevated c8bo9 Now the keys are turned off. The long shift is over. Ray has parked his rig for the last time and he’s heading down a smooth highway toward home, when the weather is always clear and the rest is well earned.

elevated c8bo9 Rest in peace Dad. We will miss you at every turn.
