elevated wvBvg Born: December 12, 1961 Baptism: January 14, 1962 Ordination: May 11, 1991 Died: October 2, 2025
elevated wvBvg It is with both sadness and joy that we announce the death of Father Scott Young. October 2, 2025 was a great day for Scott and a sad day for all of those who know him. Scott was born December 12, 1961 in Etobicoke, baptized at Nativity of Our Lord Parish on January 14, 1962, and ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Toronto on May 11, 1991. Scott is predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Jeanne Young, and by his brothers Donald and Brian. Scott had cousins in the north on his Mother’s side, and in Prince Edward County on his Father’s side. His cousin Lynda from Sudbury was able to be at his side when he passed.
elevated wvBvg Scott grew up in a loving home in Etobicoke and enjoyed friendships with many people from elementary, secondary school and University. He was a member of the Nativity of Our Lord Parish and had wonderful stories to tell about his days there. Scott attended Vincent Massey Collegiate and was a graduate of University of Toronto, Mississauga. He continued to connect with people from the early days even in the past five years.
elevated wvBvg Father Scott served as Associate and then Pastor at St. Mary’s Parish in Brampton and then Pastor at St. Christopher‘s Parish in Mississauga. He was in residence at St. Mary’s Parish in Barrie since January 2022.
elevated wvBvg Scott was a lover of God, of scripture, of debate, of reading, of music, of gardening, of travel, of food, storytelling and God’s people. Scott had a gift of retaining facts and tidbits of stories he read daily.
elevated wvBvg He was an avid stamp collector, and enjoyed gardening so much each summer; he weeded the gardens and lawns with a dedication that impressed many. The hours he spent on his knees were often spent in prayer. Scott took delight in being mistaken for the gardener and not the pastor. He made a great impact on the gardens, in each parish in which he served over the years. Gardening gave others an opportunity to stop and chat with Scott. In him they found a listening ear, wise words and some helpful tips for a good garden.
elevated wvBvg Scott enjoyed the planning of travel as much as the actual touring. He really disliked the process of getting to the place where you traveled – the cramped process of flying on an airplane was considered a necessary evil. At the end of each trip once he was off the plane he would announce I am not flying again … for a very long time.
elevated wvBvg With a joyful humor and a compassionate spirit, Scott ministered to, and had a great impact upon many families in the parishes he served. Late night sessions in parishioners’ homes with a pot of tea, or on trips to Israel, bringing the scriptures to life, Scott shared stories and became great friends with many people. Scott did not hesitate to strike up a conversation with someone in an airport, on the beach or in a restaurant. Inevitably he would discover they shared one or more friends in common.
elevated wvBvg Scott was diagnosed as a type one diabetic in his parish internship year at Saints Peter and Paul in Mississauga. Since that time his dietary discipline has ebbed and flowed. His enthusiasm for enjoying fine food and good wine meant that sometimes he would ‘cheat’ on his diet.
elevated wvBvg In recent years Scott dealt with a series of health issues. He worked to live within the limitations caused by chronic health issues continuing to serve at St. Mary’s Parish in Barrie. Scott’s last days were spent in the ICU at RVH in Barrie. He received the best care the medical team could offer.
elevated wvBvg Although we may feel Father Scott Young left us too soon, we know he will continue to join us in prayer.

Father Scott was not only our Pastor, he was also a dear friend. We were fortunate to have met him, hear his articulated life experienced and relatable homilies and to know him. We were deeply saddened and heartbroken by the news of Father Scott’s passing. Our deepest heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.
He will be deeply and sadly missed, and never forgotten.
Love you and miss you Father Scott!
You are now at rest, no longer suffering and enjoying the beauty of heaven. God love you.
Fr.Scott Young…..Pastor, friend, family member. Our dear Scott had family everywhere he went. He was always there …..in the good times ( and there were plenty) and the challenging times. He would wrap his big arms around you and reassure with “do not be afraid”. He loved life and lived it to the fullest….dancing to red, red wine, devouring Hot Pot dinners, …my most touching moment was Scott washing my feet on our trip to Israel. Service at its utmost. A very good man, gone way too soon. We are so blessed to have had him in our lives.
Father Scott was a thoughtful and compassionate priest and we are heartbroken by his sudden passing. We will always remember his riveting homelies which skilfully and clearly highlighted the message of the gospel. We’ve missed him so much since he left St Christopher’s. Thank you Father Scott for shepherding us at St Christopher’s for 17 years. You, Sir, were a great priest. We pray that you rest in peace.
Dearest Lynda, family, friends, and loved ones,
Our heartfelt condolences to you on the sudden passing of our beloved Fr. Scott.💔
May Perpetual Light Shine Upon You Fr. Scott and May you have Eternal Rest.🕯
This beautiful quote by Flavia Weedn captures our sentiments.
God puts

Hearts
and we are
Never, Ever,
….the same.
Thank you, Fr. Scott, for your cherished footprints in our hearts over the 17 years you were with us at St. Christopher’s Parish.
Forever Loved ♥️ and Never Forgotten!🙏

We feel truly blessed to have had Fr. Scott as our parish priest. Our family actually started coming to this parish because of him — his homilies were so heartfelt and inspiring that I instantly felt connected to his message. He had such a beautiful way of sharing stories and bringing the Gospel to life.
Fr. Scott was a kind, humble, and genuinely happy person. You could always feel his warmth and compassion, and he never made anyone feel judged. We were sad when he left our parish, but are grateful knowing he was able to enjoy a few years of retirement.
He will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing he is now home with God. Rest in Peace Fr. Scott
Father Scott will forever be missed my the many parishoners he served throughout his priesthood! Because of his enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to serving others, we had become more involved in volunteering in various capacities in St. Mary’s Parish, Brampton! (Specifically, early days of RCIA). Fr. Scott would visit regularly our affiliated schools and celebrate school Masses with such compassion and enthusiasm for our students spiritual, physical and emotional well-being! One particular fond memory we have, is his time volunteering back in 2002 when St. Kevin school in Brampton was a hosting site for our young faithful participants during World Youth Days in the Archdiocese! He slept on those rolled out cots many a night, waiting for the return of the youth from their long days of retreat! In fact, he showed up almost everyday, unannounced and lending his support in anyway possible! Fr. Scott …THANK YOU! Our spiritual lives are made better because of YOU and your utmost TRUST in our Catholic Faith! Rest in Eternal Peace and Joy!
My heartfelt condolences go out to Fr. Scott’s family. We have known Fr. Scott since 1997 between 2 parishes St. Mary’s Brampton and St. Christopher’s Parish Mississauga. There are too many great memories to mention! Our family cannot thank you enough for being apart of our lives in the good but especially in rough times. Your wisdom, compassion and love for us will remain in our hearts!
May God Bless you Always and Forever. Rest in Peace
My heart was so moved when I heard of Father Scott’s passing and my mind was filled with the many experiences we had when I worked with him. Fr. Scott was a wonderful, caring and compassionate Priest to all who came into his presence. I worked with Fr Scott at St Mary’s Church in Brampton for 12 years and they were years filled with many moments of joy and life. My experiences of joining him on a parish trip to Israel twice was a highlight of my time with him. He knew so much about that country and its wonderful places to visit and learn. He was one of a kind and I know will be deeply missed by all who knew him especially his close friends. Although I have not seen Scott in a while he has always been in my heart and prayers. Dear Scott you are now at Peace in the God who loved you unconditionally rest dear friend in that loving presence of God. You will be in my prayers always. with love a gratitude, S. Deanna
I was deeply saddened to hear about Scott’s passing. Scott’s was friends with my brother Howard and I. We went to Vincent Massey together. I met Scott through my brother.
Although it has been years since I’ve seen Scott. I will never forget the fun we had.
RIP my friend
My condolences to your family. You have touched my heart when I first came to St Christopers, best priest ever.
Rest in peace till we meet again
My heart is saddened to hear of Fr. Scott’s passing. He was always so joyous and genuine. Truly meeting people where they were at. I worked alongside him and John at St Chris for many years. I was truly blessed to have him celebrate my marriage- he truly knew what God had laid upon my heart.
I know you have been welcomed into His kingdom with the most loving arms.
May your soul rest in peace.
I first met Scott in 1982 when we were both students at UTM. Many memories were made in the more than 40 years since. Lots of late nights playing Trivial Pursuit (Scott always won even though the rest of us formed teams) and Monopoly. Visiting Scott’s parents, Cecil and Jeanne, at their home in Etobicoke where I was always warmly welcomed. Friday nights at the Blind Duck. Christmas Eve and Midnight Mass-Scott loved Christmas. Eating falafel in Bethlehem. Hearing the church bells ring every hour during Orthodox Easter in Greece. Visiting Santiago de Compostela. Crossing the English Channel by boat for a day trip to France. In between the trips and fun times were lots of ordinary days. Scott experienced poor health for much of his life. Diabetes took a heavy toll on him physically but never dampened his spirit. Rest in peace my friend. You will not be forgotten.
I was so blessed to work with Father Scott for thirteen years, first as a Chaplain at Iona and then as his assistant at St Chris.
My years there with Fr Scott were some of the best years of my career.
Scott, I am happy you no longer need to suffer.
Thank you for raspberries, Good Friday deep fried goodness, support in all areas of my life, for listening, challenging, singing with First Communion groups, speaking to Confirmation youth in ways they could understand, for being open to bending liturgical norms in order to touch young lives.
Can’t believe you’re gone Scott. Put in a good word for me in your forever home.
I shall miss you Fr. Scott Young. You were a dear friend. Dinners here with Joan and me maybe Fr Larry and some friends or dinner with you when you made a delicious meal.. I will never forget the Christmas I cooked a turkey and you asked for the carcass to make turkey soup which we presumed you would share with us.. Oh you made turkey soup alright but never offered any to us. We sure had a laugh at that.
So grateful I went to the Holy Land with you and Fr. Larry. It was the most wonderful experience with mass every day with tours thrown in. I will never forget that.
You blessed our dogs on the feast of St. Francis that was special. Our last conversation was two days before your surgery. I am so glad I got to talk to you one las time.
Rest in peace dear friend.
Fr. Scott has been apart of our lives since 1997 from St. Mary’s Parish in Brampton and St. Christopher’s Parish in Mississauga. He had a great heart with a beautiful spirit for Christ and in all he served. We thank him for his wisdom, compassion and love as Christ would for his flock. He was there always for our family in good and rough times and in the sacraments ie. Confirmation. We will miss you and your friendship.
May God Bless you Always!
Rest in Peace.
Till we meet again!
I will always remember Fr. Scott for his humanity expressed in the simplest ways, remembering your name when you were just new to the parish, greeting your young child by their name, and giving homilies that were relatable and offered comfort and hope that all was not lost.
Fr. Scott attended our house warming, blessing our home at a time when it wasn’t really done. We’re still in the house 16 years later, and have fond memories of him socializing with my extended family whom he’d never met until that day.
Thank you Fr. Scott for creating for me (and for many parishioners) a spiritual home at St. Christopher I’d long been looking for since spreading my wings as a young adult and moving out of my family home and parish of many years.
Rest in peace.
He was well loved and will be dearly missed.
You’ll be missed Father Scott. Your commitment to the Lord and our parish, and your incredible sense of humour. I will miss your support and light. Blessings to you always,
Manon Heran 🙂
