It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Reza Afshar, on September 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 76. Reza was the beloved husband of 45 years to his wife Mahnaz. He was also the most caring and devoted father to Kamran, Payman and his late son Mehran. He was a proud and adored ‘Baba’ to his granddaughters Olivia and Millie, and grandson Myles. He loved his daughter in-laws Kirsten, Amanda and Lauren. In his passing, Reza will be reunited with his lost friends, parents, and his beautiful son Mehran, which his family takes great solace in.
elevated 1L1LU Reza was born in Tehran, Iran on April 1, 1948. He came to Canada with his family in 1987, in hopes of making a better life for his children. He worked very hard to provide for his family while also making sure to spend quality time and serve as a role model. Reza was the most incredible and selfless husband and father and sacrificed everything for his family and friends. Reza was loved by all and left a lasting impression with all who knew him. Despite not being here physically, his legacy will live on through all who loved him dearly, and the joy and many life lessons he imparted on all of us.

Dear Mahnaz and family,
I’m so sad for you all – my heart goes out to you…
Ray was the finest of men – I admired him very much – he emanated peace and love, and I always enjoyed spending time with him at work at YTZ. He was like a father to me, and I will miss him – sorry he didn’t make it for a visit with Michele – was looking forward to reconnecting with him again.
Love and prayers,
Paula Anderson

Michele and Mario
It was a privilege to be a shift partner with this wonderful man at YGK. His thoughtful and gentle personality made him a favourite with passengers and coworkers alike. He will be greatly missed.
It was my pleasure to have known this wonderful man. A co-worker and a friend, he holds a special place in my heart
Our sympathies to you Mahnaz and all the family
Rest in peace Ray
We love you
Dear Mahnaz and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Ray was an incredible coworker and dearest friend. I remember meeting you and your children for the first time at your apartment near Warden and Finch. Throughout the 30 years plus that we’ve known each other, Ray has been an amazing friend, always helpful, generous, kind, warm and cheerful. I will dearly miss him, our conversations and laughs!!
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
To Ray’s family and friends. Please know that heaven has gained a very special angel. Ray was a lovely man who I had the pleasure of meeting and working indirectly with through the airlines. He was kind and giving and a very great co-worker to all. He will be missed but remembered always.
Dear Afshar family: Ray was such a kind person. He always made me feel very welcome when I came to your house to see Mehran, as if I were also part of your family. I hope that you will cherish the wonderful memories that you have with him.
Ray was always so kind to me whenever I visited YTZ and later when I “discovered” him over in YGK one night on the phone. We had such a lovely chat. Always a gentleman
Dearest Mahnaz, Kamran, Payman & family. Wishing you all comfort & strength in the days ahead. I’m saddened to hear of Ray’s passing; he was my papa & treated me like a daughter. I hope all the memories of him will bring you some solace during this difficult season. Praying he is with Mehran right now telling him all about his beautiful Olivia and how he she is getting. Also, reunited with our other angel Don and sharing lots of laughs. Hoping that knowing he was well loved by so many of his airport colleagues will bring you peace & ease your heavy hearts. He was so proud of his family & his grandchildren brought him so much joy. Love + blessings to you all.

Tío Afshar, you will always have a very special place in my heart and memory. Thank you for always taking care of everyone around you ❤️ Lots of love to all the family
Kam, I never met your father but I had the privilege of meeting you and I am sure you are a reflection of him. All the qualities that you mentioned he had, I saw them on you.
I am so very sorry for yours and your family loss.
My condolences.
Dear Mahnaaz and Family,
I am heartbroken to hear about Ray’s passing. He was a remarkable husband and father and one of my closest friends. We shared the journey of starting anew at the island Airport, and those memories will always be cherished.

With deepest sympathy.
