elevated 5cZrj Rita was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who lived a long and full life. It is with great sadness that we announce her sudden death. Rita was predeceased by her husband Basil and is survived by her daughter Laura (Jim), sister Marie (Paul) and numerous nieces and nephews. Siblings Jack, Frank, Melville, (Msgr.) Vincent, Alma and Bernadette also predeceased her. A special thank you to all the staff at her Residence and to her nurses and doctors for their compassionate care. May we continue to treasure the wonderful gifts of her life and memory as we go forward with our own. Due to COVID-19, there will be a private visitation and Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Funeral Home for family and Rita’s close friends. In lieu of floral tributes, donations to SickKids Foundation or another Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

Dear Laura, I first met Mrs Markle when I started at Shoppers Drug Mart in 1985…Over the next few years I was fortunate enough to get to know her. She really was a sweet woman. When Basil got sick I would go to the house on my lunch and sit with him.
Mrs. Markle would always make us
a tea & a snack…I never forgot her.

Aunt Rita was warm and cheerful. I fondly remember her extended family Christmas Boxing Day gatherings at her place. I remember the welcoming Christmas lights, the laughter of family, the colorful candies, lovely teacups, the 3-tier fancy dessert tray of delicious rum balls, butter tarts, and date squares. Aunt Rita always had a little gift for each of us. She was a gracious host.
Aunt Rita was thoughtful and giving. I always appreciated her sending us home with a number of large bags full of freshly washed and carefully folded second-hand clothes of Laura’s. What a joy it was to get home to go through it.
Aunt Rita was a good and loving sister to my Mom, Bernadette, as they regularly exchanged letters in the mail. The letters were intelligent and humorous, sharing updates of family. They were a joy to read.
Aunt Rita, I hope you are having a wonderful reunion in heaven with all those who went before you. Thank you for the memories. May God bless you as you blessed us.
It was a beautiful Mass for a beautiful soul. Warm hugs especially to Laura and MaryJo.
Laura, I have many fond memories of your Mother, esp. every Boxing Day when all of the relatives would get together to your warm home. There’s too many Aunts, Uncles and cousins to mention here, but we always looked forward to that every year along with a delicious supper. Your family was very generous and made sure that everyone felt welcomed and that all received a nice Christmas gift. I’d like to thank you and your family for those fond memories and may your Mother rest in peace along with your Father.
