elevated 6TwNO Funeral Mass & Interment – PRIVATE

We are heartbroken to announce the unexpected death of our beloved Rob at Scarborough General Hospital on July 8, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario at the age of 56.  He left too soon and will be profoundly missed by his loving family, Monika, Tyson, Emmanuel, Kaiden, Inara and Domenic, Linda, Dean, Daniel and Nicholas, Norbert, Nicole, David, Jason and Brooks, Sierra and Will, Jayde and Adam, Karin, Jody, Logan and Hailey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dieter Georg, from Breslow, Germany and Johanna Henrike (nee De Ruiter) from Amsterdam, Holland, and Monika’s parents, Ferdinand and Denise Nanke who thought the world of Rob.  Together they have welcomed him home.

Rob loved his family.  They were the center of his life, and he spoke of them with immense pride and affection.  He was always available no matter how busy he was, whenever anyone needed anything, he was there.  We are blessed to have shared our lives with him for more than 30 years and he will be remembered as the great man he was.  He was so loved.

Rob will be missed by his many lifelong friends and neighbours he loved, who will miss his charismatic personality, amazing sense of humour and his smile that could brighten any day.  Thank you to everyone who posted memories of Rob, and those who shared funny stories, they were heartfelt and made us laugh and cry in a good way!  We are all better for having known him.

Rob was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, IUOE Local 793, with his career spanning over 25 years at Pumpcrete Corporation and Modern Crane.  He will be missed by many friends, colleagues and coworkers that he loved.  Upon hearing of the passing of Rob, he was described as many things that warmed our hearts, ie, legend of legends, larger than life, a rockstar, a gem, a real beauty, one of a kind, an anomaly in the industry, an all around great man, a class act, mentor etc, etc, as per his colleagues and coworkers’ tributes and comments on social media.  Rob would be honoured!

Thank you to Mark Williams.  Rob was so grateful for your friendship, love and support, and it was mutual.  You are a true friend!  To Craig and everyone at Pumpcrete and beyond, our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered prayers, compassion and a sense of normalcy.  To all his friends that checked in and kept his spirits high with positive thoughts and encouragement, thank you!

To Herb Mageira, the G.O.A.T and O.G Legend.  Rob loved you and was so grateful for the opportunity you gave him decades ago when you hired him at Pumpcrete.  He always said he would not be the excellent operator he was without your mentorship.  Rob never forgot everything you taught him and was always grateful for what you gave him and his family!

Thank you to Father Russell Asch, of St Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Parish for your spiritual guidance during Rob’s journey. He would not have been able to fight so valiantly without your prayers and perspectives.  He found peace in your conversations and we are so grateful for the times you would miraculously find Rob wherever he was.  He would say “you’ll never guess who I saw today”.  As he smiled and laughed with genuine gratitude. Fr Asch, you provided our family with great comfort and we know Rob is at peace.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Rob’s legacy of integrity, kindness, generosity, strength of character and the rare, natural ability to make anyone feel at ease, and make us all laugh, will not be forgotten.

Until we meet again, we love you Rob, xo

Legends never die.

Thank you to Dr Urban Emmenegger and everyone who had the pleasure and privilege of meeting and caring for Rob at Sunnybrook Hospital and the Odette Cancer Centre. You gave your best efforts, and we hope that you will remember Rob as the resilient, courageous and charismatic patient that greeted you with a smile and gave you many laughs along the way.  HIs strength inspired those around him and Rob persevered because he wanted to make a difference.

Thank you also to the team at Scarborough General Hospital and all the Homecare specialists for your professionalism and kindness.

In loving memory of Rob, if you wish, donations can be made to charities or organizations working on the frontlines of the battle against cancer, providing human beings with more natural and holistic treatments that will make a difference in life expectancy and quality of life for everyone going through the traditional treatments and/or looking for better alternatives.  Some suggestions are:
THE CENTRE FOR HEALTH INNOVATION (CHI)
GATEWAY FOR CANCER RESEARCH
THE SOCIETY FOR INTEGRATIVE ONCOLOGY (SIO)
Collaboratively, there has to be a better way!
