October 5, 1934 – August 29, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rocco Camasta, who entered eternal rest following a long and beautiful life, surrounded by the love of his family in the days leading up to and on the day of his passing.
Born on October 5, 1934, in Modugno, Bari, Italy, Rocco was the beloved son of Giuseppe Camasta and Anna Cramarossa. His mother, Anna, passed away at a young age, and his father later remarried Maria Saliani. Rocco grew up alongside his four brothers, Francesco, Stefano, Vincenzo and Tommaso, and his sister, Anna.
He immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in November 1953 at just 19 years old, leaving his hometown in search of a better life and greater opportunities. Like so many Italian immigrants of his generation, he came to Canada with the hope of finding a place where the streets were said to be paved with gold. He was welcomed by his brother Francesco and began building the life and family that would become his greatest legacy.
Rocco is lovingly remembered by his brother Vincenzo and sister Anna, and was predeceased by his brothers Francesco, Stefano and Tommaso.
In the summer of 1956, Rocco married his beloved wife, Pasquina, in Toronto. Together, they built a loving family and were blessed with two sons, Giuseppe (Nancy) and Robert (Maria), four grandchildren, Patricia (Ian), Laura, Christina and Jonathan, and three great-grandchildren, Cole, Henry and Louie.
Rocco lived a fulfilling life rooted in family, hard work, travel and the simple things he enjoyed. He remained deeply connected to his Italian roots, returning to Italy every few years to visit his hometown and reconnect with family and friends. He also looked forward to his annual month-long winter vacation in Acapulco, enjoyed tending to his garden, and was always proud of his ability to fix, build and work with his hands.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Rocco worked two jobs for many years — at a paper factory in the mornings and as a caretaker in the evenings for the Toronto District School Board. His determination and strong work ethic became an important part of the family values he passed down through the generations.
Family was at the heart of Rocco’s life. He shared in countless milestones, holidays, graduations, celebrations and everyday moments that became lasting memories. He will also be remembered for the stories he shared about his childhood, his life in Italy, his work and the experiences that shaped him.
In his final days, Rocco was surrounded by the love and care of his family. On August 29, 2026, he passed peacefully, with his family close in heart and his faith in God. He has now entered eternal rest and returned to his heavenly home.
Rocco will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, sister, extended family and friends.
May he rest in eternal peace.
May God welcome him into His loving arms.
