elevated g1t1b Obituary

elevated g1t1b

elevated g1t1b On Sunday May 12th, 2019 heaven welcomed a new angel.  Rodolfo ‘Renato’ Bastasin loving husband, father, father in law and nonno passed away at the age of 70.  Renato passed away in his home in Brampton, Ontario surrounded by his family after a very brave battle with a monster of a disease.  He fought long and he fought hard.  He fought and he fought until the very end.

elevated g1t1b Renato was born in Coste di Maser, Treviso, Italy on September 14th 1948 to Luigi and Ida (Orsato). Renato immigrated to Canada in 1966.  In 1971 he married the love of his life, Rita Zadra, who he lovingly nicknamed Chea.  The couple celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on May 8th, 2019.  Together the couple raised two children: Dino and Nada and proudly watched as they grew into adults, marry and have children of their own (gli nipoti, his pride and joy)

elevated g1t1b For Renato the most important thing was his family.  Renato was a hard-working man and always sacrificed himself to be able to provide for his family.  His selflessness and dedication to his family did not stop with his wife and children.  He took the very same approach with his children’s spouses and grandchildren (usually spoiling his grandchildren a little too much!)  There was nothing he would not do for any one of them.  Renato would take the shirt off of his back without any questions and then ask if there was anything else he could do for you.

elevated g1t1b Renato was a gentle, smart, loving, hard-working, affectionate man.   Those who know him well, however, likely remember him most for his sense of humour.  Renato was a born joker and prankster.  There are countless stories of the jokes (sometimes ridiculous, sometimes inappropriate–to the mortification of his daughter, often used over and over and over…) he told and the pranks he played.  He loved to make people laugh and smile.  Until the bitter end the man had a sense of humour and prided himself on being able to make those around him laugh (invariably by telling jokes his children and wife heard a million times and his grandchildren only half a million times over the years) even when it seemed it was an impossible feat.

elevated g1t1b Renato was a man of many talents, a jack of all trades.   His handy work can be observed throughout his home and those of his children.  His passion was woodworking.  He spent countless hours in his shed building and creating.  He always welcomed the company of his grandchildren (even when they were drilling holes through the wall of his beloved shed!) in his shed where he could show off his skills and maybe teach the kids a thing or too.

elevated g1t1b Renato and his Chea loved to travel.  They went on countless cruises and trips to Italy, where they spent time together enjoying their lives and marveling in the splendors the world has to offer.

elevated g1t1b Renato was preceded in death by his father Luigi and mother Ida (Orsato) and his sister Clara.  He is survived by his wife Rita, son Dino (Patricia), daughter Nada (Robert), grandchildren Chelsea, Brandon, Olivia and Evan, his brothers Pio (Rita), Lino (Enza), Gino (Rafaella), sister Rafaella (Mariano) and many nieces and nephews.  He will be greatly missed but never forgotten by all.

elevated g1t1b A special thank you to the incredible nurses and personal support workers who helped to make it possible for Renato to remain in his home comfortably in his final months of life. Their compassion, support, knowledge, friendly faces and professionalism will never be forgotten.  Thank you to the amazing doctors and nurses from the Neurology and the Palliative Units at Brampton Civic Hospital for the care and treatment they provided to Renato both during his time in the hospital and while he was at home.  The family could not have managed without everyone’s support and guidance during this time.
