2021 has begun with a rough start, with the passing of our beloved Grandmaman, Rolande.
We wish you could have met her. She had a sparkle about her and a mischievous grin that could light up a room.
She was energetic right up until her sudden passing. We’ll remember her fondly for her enthusiastic and bubbly personality.
For one, she was the biggest Toronto Maple Leafs fan who would religiously watch every single hockey game (even though she hails from la belle province, Québec). At our grandparent’s house, if the television was not turned on to sports, it would be set to some French performance television program, full of acrobats, magicians and musicians galore, which would captivate our spirit and love for the arts.
The Laforest sisters also get our competitive side from her, as she was the queen of Yahtzee and taught us card games growing up, including many games of War at the dining table.
We’ll always remember her for her sweet tooth (her never ending supply of viva puffs, homemade donuts, sprite, salted pretzels and peach rings for her 3 grandkids). We’d make faces as we picked up some icky pickled pig’s tongues for her from visits to Québec, along with her favourite French magazines and Crossword puzzles in tow.
For special occasions, we’d all travel to St. Hubert’s by the Queensway, for some Québec style rotisserie chicken. In the later years, our new tradition would become bringing her her favourite Dairy Queen sundae when we went to visit.
She was always an energetic soul. Even in her old age, she’d zip around her neighbourhood doing errands on her adult tricycle. It was just in the last two years that she moved into a retirement community where she could enjoy their bingo, lawn bowling and performance nights, as well as look out her window to view a beautiful courtyard.
Grandmaman, we owe a lot to you, and wish we could give you big double cheek kisses once more. Sorry that covid robbed us of seeing you in 2020, but know that we loved you dearly.
