elevated M0SUj Obituary

elevated M0SUj With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Rose Marie (Marie) Lawless (Kavanagh), surrounded by her loving family, on January 19, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 29, 1936, in Scotch Lake, Nova Scotia, Rose Marie was the eldest of six children to William Joseph Kavanagh and Annie McInnis (both deceased). She is survived by her siblings Evelyn and Gerry. She is predeceased by her siblings, Joe, Delores, and Cecilia, and her beloved husband, Roy Lawless (Mookie), with whom she shared 69 loving years. Marie will be deeply missed by her eight children: Terry (Gary), Cathy (Camille), Dianne (Jeff, deceased), Donna (John, deceased), Mary-Leigh (Diego, deceased), Lorraine (Mike), Paula (Enzo), Michael (Tammy), and loving niece Judy (Jim). She was affectionately known as “Gramma” or “Mee-Ma” to her 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Before dedicating her life to raising her family, Rose Marie worked in the office at Hershey Chocolate and as a telephone operator at Bell Canada. Her selfless, unconditional love, and strong faith guided her family through life’s joys and challenges. Rose Marie’s love for travel took her to many destinations, including the US, Switzerland, Romania, France, Italy, and Spain, always alongside her husband, Mookie. She cherished summer getaways with her family to Blue Mountain and Wasaga Beach, singing and harmonizing with her sisters, and baking her famous lemon meringue pie and homemade fudge. Saturday nights were game nights for many years at the Lawless residence. Marie’s competitive side surfaced winning many ping pong challenges against Mookie.  Marie loved watching her favourite sports teams, The Toronto Maple Leaf’s and The Toronto Blue Jays with Mookie and her grandson Stephen. Marie’s caregivers, including Nurse Practitioner Irene Cilla, Nurse Relia and caretakers Carla, Jean, and Claire, who made daily visits to their home and became like family. Special gratitude is also extended to all who showed compassionate care at Baycrest Hospital.  Please join us in remembering Rose Marie’s love, laughter, and legacy, and as Mookie described her as his “Angel.”
