elevated xKVky With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Roy Lawless (Mookie), surrounded by his loving family, on November 30, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on September 28, 1934, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Roy was the beloved son of Eldred and Lillian (deceased) and brother to Eldred Junior and Sheldon (deceased).
elevated xKVky Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Rose Marie (69 years), and their eight children: Terry (Gary), Cathy (Camille), Dianne (Jeff, deceased), Donna (John, deceased), Mary-Leigh (Diego, deceased), Lorraine (Mike), Paula (Enzo), Michael (Tammy), and Judy (Jim). He will be deeply missed by his 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
elevated xKVky After dedicating over 46 years to his career as a transport driver for Overland Western, Roy enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He cherished moments of playing card games, hosting weekend-long ping pong tournaments, fishing with his grandkids at Oxtongue Lake, and competing in games of darts, bowling, and crokinole.
elevated xKVky Saturdays were reserved for watching his beloved Montreal Canadiens and teasing his grandson Stephen about the Toronto Maple Leafs. Roy’s love for travel led him to explore many destinations, including the US, Switzerland, Romania, France, Italy, and Spain.
elevated xKVky A devoted family man and grandfather, Roy’s presence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. He will leave such a void, larger than life and there will never be another Mookie, humour, looks, and intelligence all rolled into one super human being. His legacy of love, kindness, and adventure will continue to inspire his family and friends.
elevated xKVky The family extends heartfelt thanks to Roy’s caregivers, including Nurse Practitioner Irene Cilla, and caretakers Carla and Jean, who made daily visits and became like family. Special gratitude is also extended to Roy’s personal nurse, Relia, for her compassionate care.
elevated xKVky In celebration of Roy’s life, please join us as we remember his love, laughter, and adventures.

Everytime I watch “Just For Laughs Gags” I will always remember you! Your infectious laugh made the pranks on the television so much more funnier. Keep that same energy in Heaven.

My heart goes out to Mike and his family as they remember and honour Mookie (Roy). I have the fondest of memories from my late teens to early 20’s of my time around Mookie. He was a fun, quick witted individual who always made me laugh. I’ll miss him.

I will always remember you as a loving, caring, jokester that had a smile that was larger than life. Your overwhelming honesty and charismatic personality were so magnetic to all around you. My fondest memories of you were playing cribbage and darts (you always cheated) or going to your house for holidays. I am truly grateful that I was able to come see you recently and reminisce about old times. You will be deeply missed by all.

I can’t thank you enough for the honour + privilege + for the opportunity to pay a small tribute to your father + mother.
There’s not enough words to describe how much your father meant to me + everyone else that was lucky enough to know him.
How can anyone really adequately sum up, in a few words, describe just how much a man like your father meant to me + so many people + how he influenced so many lives.
How can anyone really adequately describe a man like your father, who was larger than life + so full of love + made everyone he touched feel that love + walk away feeling better about being alive + wanting more.
He more than left his mark, he left a legacy that will last for generations. He left enough stories + memories to be told
that he’ll never be forgotten.
I never realized I could love another man so much + am so grateful for having had him in my life.

Although we’re not blood relatives, we’re as close as you can get + I will always cherish that.
