Sergio M. Lopes, loving father, grandfather, husband, brother, friend, and giver of the best hugs, has passed away January 26, 2026.
elevated 24iVz While the world mourns the loss of such a bright beacon of love, the combined light of all those he has inspired and influenced will shine even brighter as proof of his great deeds and accomplishments.
elevated 24iVz Sergio possessed a God-given ability for giving. Treating all equally with dignity and respect. He was able to help others find their strength, their purpose, their path, and keep their heads held high. He helped others find things in themselves that they did not know they possessed.
elevated 24iVz A devout Catholic, Sergio never missed a Sunday Mass, and never missed an opportunity to pray. He deeply embraced the teachings of the Church, which was reflected in the way he lived. Never quick to judge, but always quick to help.
elevated 24iVz He not only built a foundation, but a towering monument for his family to build upon.
elevated 24iVz His legacy is forever etched in this world, in his family and his friends.
elevated 24iVz In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sergio can be made to Sick Kids Foundation as a reflection of his love and care for children.Â

Sérgio was a truly special soul, someone whose kindness touched so many lives. He stood by me and my family during one of the most difficult moments we faced, when my father was battling cancer, and for that I will always be deeply grateful.
I had the honor of meeting him at his mother’s home, and through my friendship with his sisters, Teresa and Cristina, I came to know the beautiful heart he had.
My heart is shattered by this loss. My deepest and most sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Sérgio. Your generosity, compassion, and love will never be forgotten.
Lilana, Patrick, Brandon and Family

Lilly . Patrick and Brandon I dont have words to articulate the sorrow I feel for the tragic loss of your Sergio . My heart is with all of you. In this pain, may you feel the closeness of God, who “is near to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18).
Hold onto the hope Christ gives us: “I am the resurrection and the life…” (John 11:25). I am confident that Sergio is now in the embrace of God’s mercy and peace. Sergio was as close to a Saint one could be and it was my honour and privilege to call him a friend .
I’m praying for your family and may the Lord’s comfort surround you and give you strength, through this unimaginable tragedy .

With a very heavy heart we have to say goodbye to my dear friend of over 30 years. We worked side by side growing the Carpenters’ Union, always fighting to make life better for its members and their families. What began as work grew into a lifelong bond and a friendship.
He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather. He was a man of deep faith, with a huge heart and a smile that could light up any room.
His passing has left an enormous hole in my heart. Rest easy, my friend. Thank you for the years, the laughs, and the memories. You will always be remembered.

Sergio has the most welcoming smile and heart. I remember growing up across the street and the first year we moved we were invited to watch FIFA. Best neighbours – always there for a chat and to lend a hand. Extremely sad to hear the news – my condolences to Liliana, their children, and rest of the family. You are in my heart.

We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Serge.
He was a great neighbour and friend during our time on Drumern Crescent.
We have many fond memories of him and Lilliana.
Please accept our deepest condolences.
He will be sorely missed.
I was going through my struggles, when all the doors were getting closed on me. Sergio was the only person who opened his door. Sergio showed me what it truly means to be a compassionate and supportive human being. He showed up. He checked in. He cared. That alone made him extraordinary. I was lucky to call him my brother-in-law, and even luckier to call him my best friend. He was a radiant soul that lit up any room he entered. So many memories I will treasure forever in my heart.
Sergio loved his family dearly and he treasured being with his grandsons. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend. Sergio was generous, considerate, and a true gentleman. We will miss him.
Our hearts go out to the Lopes family.
Special people never leave us even after they are gone. They will live in our hearts forever…
Nothing can ever break that bond.
Sergio you were a very special person with a big heart.
Lily, Patrick and Brandon we pray for you we are thinking of you and we are here for you.

My condolences to the family. My heart hurts of his tragic death. It should give us all comfort that he is now sitting beside Christ and will have ever lasting life. May the family stay strong in Christ during these trying times. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Sergio through work. He was the most kind man and loving man. God bless the family.
Sergio was a kind and generous soul, a true friend since high school, and someone who was always there whenever anyone needed support. His warmth, humour, and unwavering loyalty touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Over the past 50 years, we shared countless memories together—working side by side, laughing through the ups and downs, and recently enjoying dinner at his dream home before leaving for a week. It was during this time away that the heartbreaking news of his passing reached us.
Our condolences to his beautiful family. Sergio will forever remain in our hearts.

Sending my condolences to the Family. I am so sorry for your loss. Sergio was a kind hearted soul, and always so helpful. We will miss you Sergio. Rest in Piece my friend.
There are not enough words in the world to fully capture the kind of man Sergio was, but even describing a fraction of who he was feels like more than most could ever hope to be.
To us, he was never just a friend. He was family. My Big Buddy. I have known him for as long as I can remember, and his presence has been woven into the fabric of my life. He carried himself tall, but it was his heart that spoke the loudest. When I think of a truly genuine and humble man, I think of him. He led with quiet strength, integrity, and a kindness that left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path, even if only once.
He was a father who loved deeply and spoke of his children with pride that radiated from him. Every conversation included updates about Daniel and Leo’s newest milestones, complete with photos and stories shared with the biggest smile. He was a devoted husband who would go above and beyond without hesitation. And as a grandfather, he was endlessly proud. His joy for his grandchildren was something you could feel in the room.
And he showed up always.
If my mom ever found herself in a little fender bender, she knew exactly who to call. He would be on his way before anyone else, ready to handle the situation, diffuse the tension, and make sure she was okay. That was just who he was. A protector. A steady presence. Someone you could count on without ever having to ask twice.
He also gave in ways that often went unseen. I’ll never forget when we went to Mexico and I desperately wanted those little vacation braids. My dad was teasing me about it, and I thought that was the end of that. But somehow, without me knowing, Sergio quietly gave my mom the money so I could get them. And when I walked in proudly showing them off and my dad started up again, like so many times before, he would simply say, “Deixa a menina,” and just like that, I was off the hook. That was his love, soft, protective, and generous without ever wanting recognition.
But before anything else, when I think of Sergio, I thank him for being the most incredible friend and brother to my dad. Their bond was one built on loyalty, wisdom, and unshakeable love. He was someone my dad could speak openly with, learn from, and grow alongside. And somehow, in the middle of that brotherhood, he always found a way to be my quiet cheerleader too. He knew everything going on in my life and stood firmly in my corner. His last message to me was simple: “Congratulations, little buddy. I knew you would pass.” That was who he was. Always encouraging. Always believing in us.
Although he was taken from us far too soon, I find peace in believing that God needed someone like Sergio beside Him. In a world that can feel heavy and uncertain, I can only imagine that Heaven gained a warrior of goodness, humility, and light. His passing feels less like an end and more like a continuation of the greater purpose he always carried within him.
Thank you, Big Buddy, for the immeasurable impact you made on our family’s life. For the love, the protection, the quiet generosity, the laughter, and the unwavering loyalty. Thank you for standing beside us in ways we may never fully know.
Rest peacefully. Continue to watch over us with the same fierce love you gave so freely here on earth.
With all our love,
The Gomes Family
My sincere condolences to Liliana Lopes and family.

Sergio was truly a luminous presence in my life. He possessed an unwavering optimism that could brighten the darkest room, and his altruism knew no bounds. He moved through the world with a gentle grace; his every action was a testament to the warmth he carried within his heart. Sergio will forever live in my heart until my last breath.
There are some people whose kindness leaves a mark on everyone they meet.
Sergio was one of those rare souls, always ready to help, always thinking of others, and always showing up with warmth and generosity. The way he cared for people was genuine and effortless.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sending our deepest condolences from the staff at Don Head Dental. We are deeply sorry to hear about the sudden loss of Sergio. He was one of the most friendliest and nicest person we have ever met. Our condolences to his family. In our thoughts and prayers and prayers.
