elevated qi213 Obituary

elevated qi213 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Severino Rostirolla on Wednesday July 1, 2020 in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.

elevated qi213 Severino was a devoted husband to Rosa (nee Scozzari) for  54  years.

elevated qi213 He will be deeply missed by his children, Lou Rostirolla, and Irma (predeceased by Umberto) Bisogni.

elevated qi213 Proud and loving grandfather to Antonio, Seve and Patrick.

elevated qi213 How does one summarize 91 years of life in a few paragraphs? Our father, “nonno” to his grandchildren, can be summarized as a humble, hard-working servant of the Lord. He led a simple but purposeful life, mainly that of taking care of his family.

elevated qi213 Our father was born on March 19, 1929 to Giacinto and Pierina Rostirolla in Treviso, Italy, one of 7 siblings. Always the humble servant, he helped out on the family farm.

elevated qi213 He didn’t particularly love the farm life so, when the opportunity for what he believed would be a better life arose, he took it. It took lot of courage to leave his family behind as well as a strong sense of adventure to make the ocean crossing to a place where he did not speak the language or know anything about the culture.

elevated qi213 He eventually made his way to Toronto where he made friends, which led to an encounter with the love of his life, our mother Rosa.  They married 9 months later in November 1959. He became her partner for life and they set out working hard and with great sacrifice to make their dreams come true. And they did.

elevated qi213 The main goal was to establish a home for themselves. He joined Twin Masonry Ltd. as a truck driver/foreman where he worked until his retirement. He proved himself as a loyal and respected leader, organizing the men and equipment. He was our role model for a great work ethic, working very long hours.

elevated qi213 Eventually the family expanded. Always caring about family, he took in his in-laws who joined them in Canada. In 1961 he welcomed their first baby, a girl, Irma. In 1965 he welcomed a boy, Luigi. They sacrificed themselves in many ways in order that we could live the Canadian dream. And what a childhood it was!

elevated qi213 They both worked hard but they didn’t forget to celebrate life along the way. They maintained an open house policy to family and friends. There were countless celebrations where our father’s sense of humour, kind, friendly and gentle spirit was displayed to all. There was always an excuse whether it was a picnic, a card game or a birthday party for laughs or a sing along. This led to many enduring friendships and many memories created with all his loved ones. He especially enjoyed being a “nonno” to Antonio, Seve and Patrick. His eyes welled up upon being told that his grandson was named in his honour.

elevated qi213 As the years went on, our mother’s health began to deteriorate. He would continuously chauffeur her to appointments and never left her side without ever a complaint. We were blessed with his strength, support, modesty and charming demeanor.

elevated qi213 He will be missed by many extended family and friends to which he leaves a legacy of love.

elevated qi213 If we ever need a smile, all we will have to do is recall his many trademark phrases.

elevated qi213 We love you dad; you will always be in our hearts and never forgotten.

elevated qi213 Due to COVID 19, a private family funeral will take place. To view the mass via webcast, please click on this link.

elevated qi213 Flowers welcomed. Memorial donations in Severino’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association.
