Obituary

elevated 5Lxve Sophie Seropian, 68, of Richmond Hill, passed away in the early morning of January 2nd, 2022, with her family by her side.

elevated 5Lxve She was born to Onnig and Syranoush Assadourian, on March 20th, 1953, in Athens, Greece. The family moved to Canada when she was still a baby, settling in Montreal.

elevated 5Lxve Sophie graduated from High School of Montreal in 1970. She first met her future husband, Armen Seropian, through her brother; they were best friends growing up. They spent some time together in high school, and became an official couple in the winter of 1970. Armen and Sophie were married on August 7th, 1976, and they moved to Toronto the following year. They lived in Thornhill for 32 years before relocating to Richmond Hill in 2020.

elevated 5Lxve Sophie is survived by her mother, Syranoush; her brother, Toros; her husband, Armen; her two children, Paul, and Tanya (and her husband, Louie); her two grand-children, Anthony, and Adriana; and several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

elevated 5Lxve Sophie was a lover of classic films, especially of black-and-white romantic dramas and melodramas of the 1930s through 50s. She loved to find rare and out-of-circulation films, and record them from television when they aired, and had amassed a large collection with several binders full of DVDs. Her favourite movie was Jezebel from 1938, starring her favourite actress, Bette Davis. She was also a big fan of Alfred Hitchcock, Katherine Hepburn, and Jimmy Stewart—she spent her final Christmas watching It’s a Wonderful Life.

elevated 5Lxve Sophie loved her family, and she loved having company over. Early on in her retirement, before her health had declined, she loved to play Bridge. She attended Bridge Club meetings at the Thornhill Community Centre several times a week, and even gave a few lessons. Most of all, Sophie loved to laugh—she had an especially dry sense of humour.

elevated 5Lxve Viewing ceremony will be held on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home in Richmond Hill, with a burial shortly after at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

elevated 5Lxve As expressions of sympathy, the family would greatly appreciate donations made to the Canadian Foundation for Vascular Health, in lieu of sending flowers.
